That was the year Wilt got injured in the 9th game of the regular season. He had surgery to repair it. He should have missed the rest of that season as it was thought it would take 10 to 12 months for recovery. Instead he came back and played the final 3 games of the regular season and all of the playoff games. Averaging 47 minutes per game. Willis Reed is remembered for playing injured and inspiring his team onto victory rightfully so but Wilt played 47 minutes a game on a surgically repaired knee. Almost no one talks about that. PS: When you look at the current time table for recoveries from that specific knee injury in today's medical expertise, Wilt should have started to just play basketball again, 3 days after the 7th game of that Final Series. What he did was super human.

Wow - great video!!! Thanks for posting it. Here's an excerpt from the NY Times: This time, in the first 12 minutes the patterns that should have worked in favor of the Lakers Monday actually did. Trying to help Nate Bowman, Reed's substitute, guard Chamberlain, the Knicks wound up giving Garrett some corner room, and his deadly shooting gave the Lakers their lead. At the same time, the ball hawking and middle‐jamming tactics produced 10 Knick personal fouls in the first quarter (while the Lakers committed only four), and Knick offense was inaccurate in shooting (8 for 23) and passing (eight Knick turnovers to only two for Los Angeles). Thus, three minutes into the second quarter, the Lakers had a 49‐26 lead and had made 22 of their 33 field‐goat attempts. The rest of the game was, essentially, basket trading. The Knicks never stopped trying, their shooting improved, their press bothered the Lakers at times, and they reduced their deficits to 14 late in the second period, and to 13 with a 14‐4 rally early in the fourth. But any time they threatened to start any real counterattack, the Lakers succeeded in getting the ball inside to Wilt, and the tide turned.

Did not know that. After looking it up, it turns out that three of the four top spots on this list are held by players appearing in this game: Wilt with 45, Baylor is 3rd with 43 in a 1963 game, and West is 4th with 42 points in a 1969 game. Rick Barry is 2nd with 44 points in the 6th game and final game of the 1967 Finals, where his Warriors team lost to Wilt's Sixers.

@@oldeskoolnewsreels9927 Wilt had some huge elimination games early in his career. In his rookie year, 53 pts, 22 reb against Syracuse and then 50/35 against Russell and the Celtics in the next round that year. On 3/22/62, maybe the greatest elimination game stats of all time...56 pts/32 rebounds as Wilt led the Warriors over Syracuse. In general, his overall career playoff stats tend to be less impressive than they could be because, at the start of his career when he was a dominant scorer, the number of playoff games was very limited (e.g., the first series was a 3 game series).
