For this guy to come back from this crushing disappointment and beat Federer on this same court (in straight sets, no less) a month later for Olympic gold, beat Novak in 5 sets to win the US Open a month after that, and then beat Novak in straight sets on this same court to win Wimbledon a year later was one of the all-time great perseverance stories in sports. Hats off to Andy Murray.

In an era with Federer, Nadal & Djokovic, Andy had an incredible career. Being British myself, we arent use to having a player achieve that much success, it was a pleasure watching Andy play. It will be a long time until we have a British man do what Andy did. Big respect.

This was a huge turning point in relation to Murray’s career and the support from his home nations, because he won Olympic Gold and the US Open in the following months it’s when everything changed for Murray and the British home supporters, it was the moment myself and a lot of the U.K. went from disliking Murray to liking him and others went from liking to loving Murray. He’d had years of polarising support especially from English people due to a couple of anti English remarks but we watched him mature develop and get better and better year on year. It’s easy not to see sports players or celebrities as human like the rest of us but he really showed his humanity in 2012 and he’s a very humble person
