Second game was an excellent scenario of when putting a rook on open file would get you a dressing down by the engine. The ”can't go wrong” move is wrong about 10-15% of the time. Just enough to force you to seriously question it (i.e., chew up clock). In this case it was fairly obvious. The more subtle scenarios are so infuriating.

Thanks for this. The Vienna is usually my go to with white, but I just get a little lazy to go through all these lines. Would've also liked to see how you deal with Scandinavian, but, oh well. Not 100% sold on the Smith-Morra. I do prefer the Alapin. But I'll give it a try. Anyway, great stuff 👍

Hey Alex. Language buff here, just curious: Can Romanians and (Western) Moldovans understand each other? Also, while Romanian is very different from the Western Romance languages, can Romanians understand much of Italian, Spanish, etc. either spoken or in written forms? Thanks!

against the king's indian I noticed Kd8 after Nd5 is possible. it seems to be a +2 advantage, but playing it as a +2 is extremely hard as black gets tons of development and a pretty safe king on c7. i'm wondering why you didn't show this line.
