Today I'm out recovering trees that were blown down over the last few months in one of the many wind storms that has hit my area. Using one of my useful tools; the tractor winch, I'm bringing these wind-damaged trees from a low-lying area of the forest, uphill to my skidding trail. One of the downsides of working on such rough and steep terrain is that the walking can be difficult and dangerous. Add in a touch of snow and the ground is slippery as I'm trying to snake my way through the down trees and stumps to attach the choker chains and winch line to my trees. The easy part is pulling the rope attached to my Wallenstein FX85 skidding winch which then takes over the hard work and pulls the trees to my landing area. One thing is for certain, this winch has more power than I think I"ll ever use. As you'll see in today's video, at one point a log got caught against a stump and instead of stalling the tractor, the winch pulled the stump right out of the ground with the log. Now that's power! Glad everyone is here and hope your'e all doing well, here we go!
