Jan 26th 2023 at Tokerau Beach Far North NZ with Garth from Kerikeri. Back mounted Insta360 One X2 camera.
Left in footage of getting out through the shore break & back in. I drag the gear behind me & jump & put it over my head when a wave comes. On the way in, high ride a wave to avoid grounding & jump off in hopefully waist deep water. Usually works.
The shore break wasn't too bad on this day but I've been at Tokerau when the waves were too high & big to get far enough out without the foil grounding in between the waves.
Gear:
Me - SB Foil X 105 - 183x62cm, Goya Guru X pro 2.7m², Balz Pro 799, 95 mast, 900 fuse, 425 stab.
Garth - Old school Taranaki 75l wave board & Neil Pryde 4.2m²
Others - 2 trainee kiters on 5 & 6m² & an experienced winger on 2.5m²
Conditions - Karikari now casting showed 30 knots gusting to 40. Probably a max of 30kn on the water at Tokerau but gusty at times. Swell disappointingly small after 3 days of E.
2.7m² was definitely the right sail size and I was sheeting out & feathering often when on the wind.
