Blowing my mind... Can't wait to give it a try at lunch today. Been maxed out around 325' for quite a while now and know I'm throwing with "all arm". I know its a timing issue. Once in a while I get it right and can feel it, just not consistent. Thanks for your work!

What helped me get out of throwing all arm was focusing on reachback. Even a small coiled shoulder twist helps out alot, and relieves the shoulder soreness from stong arming

I guess at this time you maybe all got it cover but what helped me is to look at like your hips should slingshot your arm. That hip push forward when still turning back is amasing, and at the same time leading with the butt to the target so its easier to shift weight and stay balanced braced.

Great stuff! I am using a couple of the backhand drills and it does seem to be making a difference on accuracy as much as distance. Any chance you would do some forehand drill videos? I'm struggling quite a bit with learning that throw, in footwork and body/arm motion.

So would it be easier to think about throwing With the mindset that you have to drop into the power zone instead of thinking just horizontal shift? Because when you do the X step. It doesn't automatically provide a vertical down shift correct? You have to incorporate that yourself by getting up on the toes of your back foot in dropping down to your right?
@loopghost
5 жыл бұрын
Kleber Digby quite a few people, myself included, have thought that an x-step would surely get you some vertical drop. The issue is that it’s so easy to end up flat footed, and that results in not getting stacked over your plant foot.
@loopghost

Kleber Digby that’s why I force the topic regularly, and a more flat shift forward can work, but requires more flexibility to resist than a more downward shift

What timing...I just realized earlier this week that the cause of my inconsistency was step/reach back timimg. I figured out that my reach back was peaking at the time of my 2nd step of the X step, not the 3rd. This is causing me to miss my intended line, sometimes by 50 ft and my backhand distance was significantly shorter than my forehand distance (former baseball player). I know what drill I'll be doing next time I get out to the field and practice.

Hey Loop, I recently remembered this drill and decided to look it up. I have a question. When you demonstrate the movement at first, the path is very circular, the bottom part of the swing more like how a golf club would swing. However, when you actually use the windmill drill you throw discs, it appears as though you kind of cut the circle in half as you come down and the forearm bends. I have been having trouble forever with understanding how to do this. Everytime I've tried the drill, I wind up doing the big vertical circle. I don't understand how you get the path of the disc to flatten out more, instead of continuing down the circle. Please help lol

Hey Sam - yes, I don't worry about the pull height very much in this drill - because we're coming in sooo high, that things are too swoopy. But in this drill I try to really feel the tallness of the body (being very vertical) on the back foot and the full-body swing.
@samhowl1152

@@loopghost if you're very vertical on the backswing, how do you set the angle you want on the downswing?
@loopghost
2 жыл бұрын
@@samhowl1152 by "being very vertical" I mean that when the disc is above my head, I want to be tall on my back foot. Then I try to wait until the disc gets close to chest height until I start bringing the disc forward. Even if you don't throw a disc, the motion is still a good drill - just to feel that momentum shift.

Can't you use the same windmill drill to help your forehand? Everyone always says the windmill-like swing of Mcbeth, Avery, et al. are just what's comfortable for them; they've been doing this secret drill for years right in front of us. Lol

Eric Best , throwing side arm like that is dumb. That’s why the best sidearm players don’t do it. It limits the angles you can throw the disc on
@jeremyburris4890

It just helps with timing and increases your reach back. I wouldn't say anything a world champion does on the course is stupid. They have put in countless hours to find out what works for them. Everyone is different.

Jeremy Burris , it doesn’t help with reach back or timing at all! That’s why the players that use that method can only throw very Overstake discs. You’ll never see them throwing midranges or straight fairways.

I was throwing Rocs, which are slow disca and the last shot was a 10 speed discs flat was 400' and was thrown at about 60% power. For me to get into the high 400's, I have would have been hitting the houses behind the fence - didn't want to do that. 375' with a Roc is about the speed I use to throw 450' with a slight flex and a driver. If I want to hit 500', I have to throw distance lines, which are higher and turn longer. Pros who can throw 500' on a hyzer are throwing the disc ~70 mph, which comes from immaculate form and timing and (most of the time) long arms.

He's not taking a full run up and is likely focusing on the demonstration of the exercise and not going for max distance. Most of the throws seem to be with midranges too.
