I'm glad that the channel has moved away from its earlier pronouncements that the problems installing KB5034441 were related to users having "older computers" - which was clearly wrong from the beginning. The size of users' PCs recovery partition is a much plausible explanation.

I have two 7 year old MS 10 machines that are custom builds, and use Acronis True Image for recovery purposes. They both do not have recovery partitions so KB5034441 did not install. Thank you for the "Not Me Worry" information and the option to Skip the KB5034441 Update.

Your a light in the dark, I over worry about my laptop getting damaged or breaking and this update only made my worries worse but seeing you actively bring attention to it calms me down a little lol This update along with another keeps failing but anytime I mention it, youtube thinks it is spam for some reason but when both fail, they are generally put under the same error as 4441 is.

Yep. Playing with partition sizes is risky and may lead to data loss. Microsoft should send an automated batch file or program which will safely do the work for you. That would solve the issue for most users.

I've never touched the partitions on my 2010 era Gateway NV59C, which first ran Win7 Home. Around August 2015, MicroSoft pushed Win10 Home to my machine while I was on vacation. Around 2017 I upgraded the HDD to a Crucial SSD, using the Crucial software defaults. After various other updates to the current 22H2, "Disk Management" shows for Disk 0, first a 13.00 GB Healthy (Recovery Partition), then a System Reserved 100 MB NTFS Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition), and finally a Gateway (C:) 475.95 GB NTFS Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). This was the first time I've ever run "Disk Management," but based on those results, MicroSoft has a different problem beyond what they think is needed for a recovery partition size.

On 2 of my Win 10 machines MS created 2 recovery partitions, one 450 MB, then comes the 100 MB EFI partition, then Win System and then a 500 MB recovery partition! 😁 That was done after a major Win 10 feature update that broke the Backup Win 7 function. Maybe that also was a problem of a too small recovery partition, so MS created a new one 50 MB bigger?

Hej Gill i also installed this update on my Windows 10 computer but yes first I have to risize the partition on the recovery partition. I did it mostly to see how it would go and it was fine to install this update after I did it but I don't think you should have to do it in order to get a Windows update to install have a nice day Gill.

In simple terms, ignore the Windows 10/11 update KB5034441as many people are having issues installing installing it. If you don't use the Windows Bitlocker encryption tool or if it is your home system, there is no need to install the update as it is not necessary. I would hold off until Microsoft comes with a better solution other then completely formatting and resizing your recovery/reserved system partition. I believe a fresh, format install of Windows 11 would fix the issue since it should adjust the recovery partition to the recommended size, but as a Windows 10 user with lots of important files, I not gonna format or upgrade until 2025.

I got my windows from microsoft online. It sets the recovery partition a 522 megabytes. There is no way that it will take a update over that. I stretched mine to your 954 MB and the update went right in. However, you are right most users will not have the acumen to do that with normally. Even following the directions can lead to trouble and a possibly bricked system. Microsoft should never have brought out a update that would not fit the space they provided during their setup of windows. It's all on them to dix their error.

The convoluted recovery partition resize fix is absurd, there should never be a reason for the end user to do this. Let M$ fix their own errors. If I had a dime for everytime I had to pause/hide/remove an M$ update...

And yet, Microsoft and a lot of computer technology bloggers are STILL advising people to change the size of their recovery partition. What I wondering is: how many of these bloggers get some kind of financial compensation from Microsoft when they talk about its products & services...

My recovery partition is just over 500mb and it still won't install, now I feel I should not have to deal with my recovery partition at all, 500mb should be plenty. If they mean I need an additional 250mb I feel the update should do it for me and not myself. But the way I also see it at there rate of increase to 1 Gb of recovery space is way too much and judging by this it only means it will increase even more in the future. Pretty soon your RE Partition will have to be equal to your C drive. NUTS! I am not going to resize my partition chancing me buggering it up, I feel Microsoft should make the adjustments on the update and not myself. So I will keep ignoring it, hopefully MS will have a fix on this issue, but I am not going to hold my breath for it either. Yes I know it is a security issue and if it is such a security issue don't you think MS would make sure it is addressed properly? We will see.

I maybe consider having a second hard drive with a second system, like Linux Mint in my big powerful PC. I'm not a very patient person when it's about problems with operating system.
