I've been PREACHING for ARM computing for years now. I really believe we could have made this transition for consumers five or six years ago if we'd had better developer support. As for RAM, it really depends on your workload. The thing with these new "AI" PCs, if you think you'd maybe be interested in some of the NPU capabilities, I would try to step up to more RAM. AI models EAT RAM. 16GB is solid for a general purpose Windows machine. With unified memory going to the CPU and the GPU AND the NPU, 32GB gives you a little more breathing room.

Just updated my surface "pro" 9 to this 24h2 preview and see literally no performance boost in all the scenarious. I've picked a few games (not because of I consider it as a gaming device, no, but because it is a really good measure for performance per watt). Noita - bad as it was, Sons of the forest - awful as it was, Valheim - won't load after main menu but previously was fine, necrodancer - awful lags in such a simple game. The same again - or this new fancy emulator wasn't released yet or it has no impact on SQ3(8cx gen 3). Numbers in geekbench is quite impressive but all that stuff drains the same 20w+ from a battery and that is a result so close to intel's 11 gen cpus that it's not funny anymore. Would really love to see you comparing your tablet to something amd based. I have 7535u and it crushes the sq3 in all scenarious. (Keeping it on battery saver power plan that makes it consume the same 20-25 watts, but I have more control and compatibility. Probably this new x elite won't be a better deal, but we'll see I guess

We'll see. AMD has been doing good work, and I love my 8945HS mini PC, but even they aren't matching what we've seen from X Elite so far. Right. Which means we shouldn't expect it to "win" at gaming. It should be better than a steam deck though. So for folks who NEED to carry a laptop for work, they might not WANT to carry both a laptop and a console, we're still in pretty good shape for some moderate gaming on the go. I can't get this kind of performance on any Intel parts on battery, and if my AMD laptop has a discrete GPU, I probably need to plug that in too. It's all about the right tool for the right job.

I'm glad I waited. The Macbooks were tempting, but I'd rather get on with X Elite, and hopefully throw linux on it soon.

It's a stupid feature to bake into an OS like this, but it's dumb to think it won't be easily disabled, especially on Windows Pro machines. We want this hardware to succeed so we can see it in other devices like Steam Deck clones and Linux PCs. Qualcomm already delivered an experimental build of Debian www.qualcomm.com/developer/blog/2024/05/upstreaming-linux-kernel-support-for-the-snapdragon-x-elite

I had a Samsung notebook from 2011 which I was able to reboot and use in 2023 for a second with madden 24 and command and conquer from steam but I couldn’t find anyone who still made the charger and the software stopped connecting to WiFi 8:35

Ugh that's lame. Proprietary chargers suck. Even old hardware can still be used for more if we could keep it running and supported.
