They could easily refresh the icons though to make it somewhat less jarring in the control panel - I think that would smooth out the acceptability that CP is here for the long term. As you say, straight back to the "Fisher Price" style design Language when you venture off the beaten track into the CP!

I don't necessarily see the point of the control panel being removed at all. This is just an example of what Win11 does wrong at the end of the day, pointless confusing changes.

Microsoft should at least try and fix the half-assed dark theme in the control panel. It looks extremely broken and messy. If you go into the fonts folder in C:\Windows you'll see what I mean. It's bad.

There is nothing wrong with the control panel which has been around since 3.1, "Settings" is counter intuitive. Also This is Windows Vista/7 style Control Panel, not XP.

I fall back to these windows on occasion. Even Device Manager is too buried.
