I thought that the general reason for Tiny 10/11 was to enable things to run more smoothly on lower end systems, especially those with small amounts of RAM. So for me, this gaming test was not really in the right ballpark to begin with.

If a game is optimized to use 4 GB of RAM, it doesn't matter if you run a comparison on a system with 16 GB e.g. Your OS using 4 or 2 would not make a diffenrence on the high end system but would make a difference if you only have 4 GB to begin with.

I doubt there will ever be much difference between a fresh stock Windows install and a debloated one in games. What I believe would be noticeable is a difference in daily tasks, especially on older hardware with less RAM, or older/cheaper laptops that some just use to browse the web, watch a movie, KZitem and so on. So just opening/loading a browser or an extra tab and watching a YT video would be much better on a debloated system that has like 4GB-8GB of RAM and a slower CPU.

Windows efficiently utilizes available RAM based on your system's capacity. It's very good with RAM management, automatically reallocating resources when required by other programs. @@themadmallard I did not intend to imply that Windows RAM management works wonders. My intention was simply to clarify that the utilization of RAM is a feature of Windows (and a good one) and not a flaw. Furthermore, I find your use of the term "thrashing" quite vague and misleading. What constitutes as "trashing?" Even attempting to comprehend the operations of computers in the 90s can be overwhelming. Compatibility aside, imagine trying to run an OS from the 90's on a computer from the 80's and one would be hard pressed to say the computer isn't getting thrashed. You see, it is all relative. Modern computers are significantly more advanced than their predecessors, and they are designed to handle the demands placed upon them by both end users and the Windows operating system. Therefore, while Windows RAM management may not be as sophisticated as some may believe, it ultimately does not matter because it fulfills its purpose effectively.

I concur with your conclusion. I created a Tiny11 image a few days ago but haven't installed it yet. I plan to put it on my Surface Pro 7 (Core i5 1035G4, 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage). The extra 10GB of storage on the NVMe would be nice. I also frequently fill up the RAM. Between Windows itself, 3ish GB going to the Iris G4 GPU, and memory hogs like Chrome/Edge, it's hard to keep enough RAM open for any real multitasking. I do use some stock Windows features that Tiny11 removes so I'll have to add those back, but I expect to see an improvement regardless. Maybe this week I'll test it - after my important meetings, just in case the install goes pear shaped.

I have also since gotten a mini PC (Think Intel NUC) for my living room and it came with 8GB of RAM. What I have ultimately decided is 8GB of RAM simply is not enough for W11 (And likely modern PCs). Tiny11 is just a stopgap solution. If you are looking at a Surface, make sure to order one with 16GB+ of RAM, as it's not user upgradable. Also, if you buy an older one, don't get the 7, get the 7+ or higher, they have an M.2 slot that you can add a drive to instead of just microSD (Double check that for the specific model before you buy). I love the Surface form factor, but I think I am going to be upgrading to an ASUS ROG Flow Z13 (Specifically the Z13, not the X13, X13 is one of those flippy laptop things. If tiny basically frees up memory, wouldn't the biggest gains be on systems either with lower memory (e.g 8 - 16 gb), a cluttered hdd, or both? I feel like windows tiny is more likely to effect how quickly a game/program will load, rather than how fast it will run (since ultimately that would be hard ware dependent). It might also give performance boosts in more loaded scenarios, e.g. alt-tabbing in and out with a bunch of browser windows open.

This is all good news. The point of Tiny 11 with games is not added performance. The point is do they run. And yes very well. The real point of Tiny 11 is removal of Microsoft bloatware, clutter and Spyware!

I've found over the past 20+ years of so called "De Bloated" windows installs as that they may make Windows start faster, but overall they don't make it actually run faster, and definitely not better. An SSD boot drive and a few tweaks to the startup programs is all you need for a responsive system. People waste way too much time tinkering with their computers, more time than they actually save.

And it's possible to go too far with "debloating". I liken it to cutting off one's arms and legs in order to lose weight... sure, one is lighter, but one is also crippled.

Try 1080p res and low settings to see if debloated OS makes a difference
Forget GPU intensive applications. Try CPU and memory intensive processes. Maybe something like compiling chromium or another big app. Not everyone buys computers to play video games.

One test you should do, since a lot of gamers are interested in it, is the difference in stuff like input lag between the 2 operating systems. I've seen a lot of people talk about doing debloated installs for that reason. It might benefit high polling rate mice for instance. Great videos btw, thanks for doing this kind of stuff.

I wouldn't expect a debloated Windows copy to run games better. Microsoft has done a pretty good job making games take priority on Windows. A lot of the features for Windows 11 are also useful for optimizing performance and quality of life. I don't mind the always connected nature either. HOWEVER I do have a home server running Windows 10 right now. It's a glorified file server that I also run Plex on. The base hardware is about 7 years old and I don't think I could install Win 11 on it. I have plenty of memory mind you and a decent SSD system drive, just wanted something stripped down to deliver basic file share services without all the other pointless stuff that's pushing Microsoft cloud services on you. Right off the bat, a Tiny 11 iso install doesn't force you to sign in to Microsoft services upon install(it creates a local account) and therefore it doesn't sync OneDrive and load a bunch of other Microsoft account synced junk to user profile I never wanted for a home server I almost never log on to locally. I could install/run Windows Server but that gets harry with desktop pc consumer hardware driver support. So I'm trying out Tiny11 now to see if I can recreate my server environment without issue in a VM. If so I will likely rebuild the system OS with Win 11 sepcially now that it supports Microsoft updates.

This month's update for Win10 (older laptop) updated the weather app and it now is the most resource intensive app on my laptop as confirmed within task manager. Lots of rotating advertising and whatever else uses resources. I wish I could stop that. At the rate things are being monetized, my recliner may force me to start watching advertisements!

These numbers are also dependent on your system specs as you know. From my experience with NTDev's actual ISO, I got about a 5% fps boost in CP2077. Which isn't much. I also tested it with Dying Light 2 and Dead Island 2. Those fell within the margin of error, with about a 5% fps increase for the non-debloated win11. I also did not test with rtx on. AMD rtx just isn't there yet and I'm not a huge fan of ray tracing anyway. So, as you asked, is it worth it? No, not really. Something people really need to remember about these tiny editions, even if you made it yourself, over time Windows will end up adding back the things that have been removed, if you have Windows updates turned on. So, in two maybe 3 updates, you're back to where you started. lol

From what I've noticed, it's only the build updates that put bloat back. When build updates come around, you can always create another debloated edition to install instead of Microsofts.
