I have a new motherboard and the purchase on eBay was supposed to be new and unused and included everything as if it was purchased unopened. Upon inspection the motherboard did not come with everything the most important part was the I/O shield. An extensive search on eBay revealed no exact matches except one, it is a computer store in Berlin, Germany. That's perfect the only problem is they don't ship to the USA. IF you are willing to help me what I would need is for you to order it and then ship it to me here in the USA. This is to restore my mom's desktop computer. I can explain more if needed. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

To get your bitlocker key BEFORE something happens and you run a local account, start a command prompt in Admin mode and execute: "manage-bde -protectors -get " Replace "" with the actual drive you want to get the key for, usually C:, but once for each drive that's encrypted. Then print that data on paper and/or store it on a USB stick that you put a literal padlock on. If you print it, make sure you use a good font that ensures that "l" and "1" looks different as well as "0" and "O".
@chuckh1958

Not only should you have a printed copy of your BitLocker key, but I would suggest suspending bit locker before every update and resuming it after the update completes and the computer reboots successfully. Better yet, don't enable BitLocker unless you actually need it. If you have a desktop computer for instance, why enable it in the first place? What are the odds you're going to lose your desktop computer? Were that someone's going to break into your house and steal just the HDD and not the entire computer?

If one gets that far, might as well create a local admin account, with a password, and then open the bitlocker applet, and save the key directly to a file or USB drive ( certain drive types alter the options that is shown ).. With this approach, you can save multiple keys to the usb flash drive, and you can, when in recovery, just select the USB drive, and Windows will find the right file on its own and unlock the drive. And there's nothing stopping a user from saving the file to two flash drives; keep one in a safe place, and the second on a flash drive kept with your regular keys, for example. The alternative is to just take a picture of the key using the command prompt and mange-bde -get and leave the picture on your phone.. It's not as convenient when one needs to type in the 48 characters needed. Most people start to have issues getting 8 characters entered correctly; 48 is an actual achievement. Me, I prefer to save the files to a UNIQUE looking flash drive ( a flash drive for important stuff )

It may not be on your Microsoft account because you don't have access or a Microsoft account, in that case the process of enabling BitLocker forced you to save the key to a USB stick or a text file. If you don't have that, that's on you.

No Brian first thanks for the warning as every day when I check for updates I always get a security update. Actually on checking I have this particular update installed on my laptop - something that does not happen on my main desktop when checking for updates on it - I shall have to delve into update history to see if it has downloaded without my knowledge. Now having said that I have often thought of encrypting my laptop it is my main machine to use, and the latter part of this video has been really helpful!!.

Thanks M$ for enabling the feature without my knowledge BECAUSE SECURITY IS FIRST. And so Windows 11 is so bloated that it can barely open File Explorer, there is no dark mode in Windows Tools (formerly Windows Administrative Tools), i.e. it is but with a mixture of light mode (it works normally in Windows 10). Even if we go from these Windows Tools to the C: drive, we can run the old file explorer from the address bar, which was known in Windows 10. There is also a long way to go until Windows 11 becomes "perfect", because with each update it gets worse.

It never ends with Windows 11 does it. It just gets worse and worse. And you cannot even disable updates on Windows. On Linux we don't have these problems. Debian which I am on gets updated all the time but none of the updates has ever broken my system. It can happen but is very rare on Linux unless you are upgrading to a new version of Ubuntu or something like that. Even then it is still rare. I never used Bitlocker on Windows 7 there is no need. I think an account with a password is enough. Even so this should not happen. There seems to be one problem after another with Windows 11. It has to be the worst version of Windows ever.
