You can run Vista SP2 on UEFI with CSM and keep doing UEFI+GPT boot. CSM just allows for interrupts and MBR booting, but you don't have to use the MBR booting part of it.

Yeah, I learnt that lesson the hard way. On an older install, I accidentally installed the chipset driver, and that led to my PC becoming unbootable

i have a 1080 ti and i'm a fan of this eye candy os, the truth is i tried it before on my 980 ti, and no game except for "some" old titles worked. Now, i have that urge again to install it. Would you be kind to give some feedback for someone who wants to game on it on a 1080 ti?
@6003Mojave
2 жыл бұрын
Well, the 1080ti will work worse on Windows Vista compared to newer versions of windows, due to the drivers being modified to work on an "unsupported" OS, but I'm not sure how it would work in comparison to your 980ti. In terms of running more modern games, that would be pretty difficult. I have tried many times to get modern versions of steam running on Windows Vista, with varied success. And then, of course, there's the fact that a sizeable number of games would probably crash if they are relatively new. In a nutshell, gaming on Vista is hard, but still somewhat possible

Prob will not read this but can't you just convert you disk to one legacy bios supports and use the bios compatibility layer on the uefi settings?

The point of this video was to not do that, and see how stable Windows Vista was on pure UEFI, especially since Microsoft says it's officially supported

As long as you're not as scared with the installer command prompt and messing with the BIOS, things should be fine. I do recommend watching the whole video first though

Mate, I am at my wits end. I Have W7 installed and pretty much working but not in UEFI only. Laptop has CSM + Uefi which works with W7 on GPT but for the life of me I can't understand how to apply uefiseven fix. I either need an instruction for total dum dum how to apply uefiseven or someone telling me if it's even necessary to fight with CSM ? W7 will be the only system, no dual boot.
@Pluginz

You dont need to run all the UEFI variables for Secure Boot to work. Youre not a dum dum. It just takes some trial and error to get the best out of your machine. Windows only needs 1 UEFI variable loaded from the bios to get a full GPT UEFI only booting machine. All the CSM does when disabled, is lock down the booting drive to 1 device with a password. You can do that yourself manually. Create 2 bios passwords. One for a Supervisor, the other for the User. Two things needed to fix. Only load the PK Uefi variable. Always log into Bios as a User for booting. You'll figure it out 🙂
@Pluginz

Yes exactly, dont bother fighting with GPT. MBR Dynamic over extended logical drive will give you exactly the same results. It'll prob be faster
@Stratos1988

@@Pluginz Thing is I don't need any security feature or even a password. I'm interested in fast boot and sleep mode. I haven't touched this laptop for those past few days. Can't find good info on what exactly does exclusive UEFI over mixed mode. Either way I want to apply "uefiseven" fix from github, but I dont know if those files should be on bootable drive or should i use powershell on installed system or what. Intructions on site are in plain english yet not understable.

@@Stratos1988 With MBR youre using an NTFS Partition for Windows, its using the first sectors on the disk to boot from, which is not accessible from the Bios. FAT32 cannot understand NTFS. With UEFI youre using a FAT32 System EFI partition to boot from. Windows continues to be installed on NTFS partition. But Bios can now read the boot sectors from within the FAT32 partition and information can be manipulated. Thats how i understand it anyways 🙂 I'll be back
