Yes I agree Tom. Kenny really shines on Austin City Limits 1981 with Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass boys. Butch Robbins uploaded that priceless clip not too long ago. Fabulous concert with Bill doing all our favorite numbers.

Kenny's the best ever, and always will be. Smooth as silk, he let's the fiddle do the talking. Literally.

Oops! That is "he lets the fiddle do the talking." When I asked him about working on Chevy engines between tours he said, "gotta make a living." Those magic fingers.....

I've been playing Fiddle since I was 10 year's old,My grandpa had the record 16 greatest Fiddlers Hits With Tommy Jackson and the Hamilton County Breakdown he also Had alot of Autographed Kenny Baker Records which I own now that I learned from these Record's. I've won Multiple 1st place Fiddling contest. One tune that's tough to play and played right is Jerusalem Ridge played by Kenny Baker and written by the father of Bluegrass Bill Monroe. I've heard and seen alot of Fiddlers in my life try to or attempt to play Jerusalem Ridge and they screw it up each and every single time. What really got me into playing Bluegrass Fiddle was Hearing Faded Love by Bob wills and I decided from then on out to become the best Fiddle player I could possibly be and that's Exactly what I've accomplished......To All my Fiddling Brother's out there HAPPY FIDDLING AND GOD BLESS!!!

I think you got your priorities right, Drew... Carnival Waltz, Daley's Reel, Cheyenne played by Baker... that's about as good as it gets
Isn't that Gordon Stobbe introducing Kenny? I remember Gord when he was playing in Ontario at the Carlisle Bluegrass Canada festivals back in the 1970's.

Yes, it is Gordon. It was a regional show called "Up Home Tonight", I think.. Gordon did perform at Carlisle back then. I attended a fiddle workshop to ask Kenny B. about the bowing in 'Cheyenne.' Bill M.'s bus was just pulling in and Kenny didn't make the workshop. I got my question answered by a 15 year old wonderkid. Ontario has some killer fiddlers, including Dwight Yoakum's fiddler from Sudbury, Don Reed.

Yes, it is Gordon. This was from his show "Up Home Tonight" which was filmed live on the ATV network in Halifax, NS for 8 years. Gordon performed for a few years with the Dixie Flyers at Carlisle in the 70's.

@@fiddlebooks Certainly. Thanks for your message. I remember Bert "and the boys " very well. All good friends of mine. I was in The Bluegrass Revival those years playing Carlisle and many other shows for 11 years. . Then Denis LePage formed Limited Edition 1982 - 1986 . I was guitar , Mitch LePage mandolin , Larry Brisbois bass ( Canada's Roger Bush ) and the great Roly LaPierre on fiddle. What a wonderful band we were. ( sorry to brag). Actually I will be visiting Denis today.

+AmBotanischenGarten On that "Earl Scruggs, his family and friends" album (1973 or so) you hear the term "fox pass" which is the "hillbilly" pronunciation of the French "faux pas" (gaffe, mis-step, mistake). "Faux" hillbillies clap on TV shows but they also do in real life. Can be pretty aggravating if the are not on time, ain't it so?

It isn't just the clapping...every place I've performed where there are children you can't keep them from dancing, from when they can stand to age 50 hippies. The last time I saw the revival band "Highwoods String Band" at the Red Fox they literally "danced on outta here" on the last number (said Walt Koken before they started....)....

Whoever was holding the double bass while the bass player went off for a moment shouldn't have tried to play along with this. Just listen to it. Don't you think it ruins it?
