Thanks for the review. I have a 2021 59px hardtop that I bought to use as a hurricane evac and return unit. 2 months after I bought it, my town took Hurricane Ida's eyewall; I drove 100 miles west to get out of the path. In evacuation, I lived in it for 2 weeks after only using it for an overnighter since the purchase, and it did exactly what I needed it to do. Spent the first evac night in a hospital parking lot running the generator for a/c till I found a campsite the next day with electricity (yes, it's hot and humid in south LA). I've had it for a year now with minimal issues. Enjoy, and Le Bon Temps' Roule!

@@CarolinaCampervan Again, thanks for replying. Question...any input on cold weather? I live in south Louisiana so freezing is a possibility for short periods. I really don't want to winterize every time we get a rare freeze so that I can enjoy camping during our mild winters. Winnebago advised running the heater at 60 degrees to protect the water lines on those occasions. I'm still concerned with the lines I can't see below the floor and possible exposure under the rear passenger seats. Last year I drained the Solis during what mild freezes we had, which left my system empty for camping. Any input on how winterized/protected the Solis actually is if I wanted to keep lines active?
@CarolinaCampervan

@@miken199 We live in Charleston, SC where it does occasionally freeze. I did not winterize last year, but I did do a sanitize. I feel it would have to stay pretty cold, mid 20’s or so, for a while before things started to freeze up. I feel where I live there is no need to winterize unless some weird abnormal weather comes through for an extended period. We went out west last year where we had some really cold weather for a few days and everything was ok! I would say south LA, you should be good to skip the winterization process unless some freak cold front pushes in and stays for a while. Have a great day! 👍

This may have already been mentioned, but I did not scroll through all the comments. One reason the water tank may bulge (not say this happened to you) is filling through the city pressure tank fill. If one does not turn off in time, the tank will quickly pressurize as the overflow can not handle the volume of pressurized inflow. And this pressure causes the tank to expand. Ask me how I know? Fortunately the tank I did this too had lots of space around it. It took quite a while for the water to quit draining through the overflow. A fun experiment would be to fill one of these tanks either the tank or a fitting failed. Thanks for the video. I am considering the 59PX non pop top as Van 2.0 after a good experiences in my Solis 36A. Solis 36A was perfect proof of concept camper van for me.

Yes, since we have teens, we typically have one that sleeps up top and then one in a tent. You can fit two smaller children though, you can even fit two sleeping bags up there. It is a Full XL mattress. - you can have ventilation via opening the windows- two of them open with or without a screen.

What kind of MPG are you seeing? Engine ever feel underpowered or struggle with hills? How’s the engine perform at elevation? I just started exploring the idea of a camper van after visiting an RV expo. Came across your video and really like the honest review, keep up the good work.
@CarolinaCampervan

We typically see an avg of about 17 mpg which isn’t too shabby for the weight. The 59P comes in right around 10k lbs with water, gear, propane, etc. I live in the Charleston, SC area where it’s super flat, but traveling in the mountains is fine. It does have a low gear option for super steep climbs if need it. I usually just take it easy on steep stuff; 1) I not too comfortable in super mountainous areas and 2) I just don’t want to blow her up! 😀 But essentially it has the same engine that a Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup has so it’s a beast. Thank for the nice comment and let me know if you have any other question! 👍

We have a 16 year old boy and 14 year old daughter. My son usually sleeps in a tent beside the van since they like there own space unless it raining hard. Probably not a bad idea for the girls to sleep in the Murphy bed if the dog is going to sleep with them. I love sleeping in the pop top. When it’s just my wife and I if I snore too much, my wife kicks me out of the Murphy bed and I get the pop top! 😀 I hope you have a fun trip, be safe, and let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for visiting the channel. That seems like it will be an awesome adventure! I found that it took a bit to get used to and was glad to drive it on familiar roads before going on our first big trip. Although, I was able to get adjusted to it pretty easily. I am sure you will be fine either way, but if you don't think you will need the extra seats or pop top, perhaps go for one that is a bit smaller for your first trip. The Solis Pocket might be a good fit (although it only has an outdoor shower and portable toilet) or other models that don't have the pop top and are slightly smaller. I hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions you might have prior to your trip!

Why bother buying an RV, given excessive pricing for quality level delivered. Buy a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, and then stay at Marriott hotels or Embassy Suites when traveling. I have been full time in my Solis 59P for just over a year and would 100% buy a new one if something happened to it (accident or whatever). It's just absolutely perfect for my needs. Agreed on wish-list item of awning style windows. It's tricky sometimes during rain - usually if it's not too windy I pop the top and open the windows there (since the overhangs of the pop top being out further prevents most rain from coming in) and put on the exhaust fan. Personally I like the AGM batteries because many times I am in below freezing temps at night so I don't have to worry at all about keeping them warm, and if they only last a few years it's not that bad since I can replace them for a couple hundred bucks at virtually any auto parts store at a moment's notice. The armrest is just an unfortunate Dodge chassis thing (the 2500 doesn't come with passenger armrest but the 3500 chassis does). Interesting that you got yours from Camping World as I have heard horror story upon horror story. How was your experience? From what I've heard, they get you in the door with those low advertised prices but they make most of their money by really padding out the financing rates, so in the end, even if your sticker said $79k, you might be paying $100k or way more based on interest rates and all the added fees.

Thanks for watching and 100% agree with you! Love this van. I have been able to go on so many adventures with the family. It has been great, regardless of the minor items I listed. With you being full time, you must have seen some pretty cool places as well! What has been your favorite place? Yes, camping world was not the best experience, but more so because we flew out to get the car and their computer system was down, so it took forever. Then we had a bit of a drive back. When we had issues after the fact, they were very slow to respond as well. Price was what was advertised apart from tax and doc fees, so typical. Although, I did ask for the total price when we were on our calls and got a finance contract before our flight. Really appreciate you watching and maybe we will see you on the road :)

Yes I live in the Motor home full time but not on the road, I have a lot in Port Townsend Wa. My girlfriend and I take it out often, we did a 2 week road trip to Arizona and back last summer with no reservations, stayed in casino parking lots and truck stops for free, never paid for a place to stay, it was a blast. If my channel ever takes off we plan to hit the road full time. Safe travels my friend!

Thank you so much for your questions. Yes, a car seat will fit in the back passenger seats. The cassette has not been a problem. It is so easy to find a place to dump it. Thanks for the great Solis tour. I was wondering if you had considered using wedges on either side of the drain, allowing the wall to block/absorb the pressure of the bulging tank and keep it away from the drain pipe? I'm looking at used vans and this is one of the things I will now check and ask about!

Hi, this was a great and honest review. THANK YOU! Question for you, if you don't mind me asking, I am leaning towards 59px which is 21 feet, and looks like you have the shorter one, if you got 59px, would that extra 18 inches of length affect your mobility based on all the driving you have done? Also, Does a pop top cause a security concern? I mean, you are in the middle of no where sleep, any concerns some crazy person could just cut it open and try to gain access? Thanks again!
@CarolinaCampervan
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, we just have the P, so slightly smaller and fits well in parking spaces. However the X does give you a generator, AC and the option to make your bed King vs. Queen or extra storage. So it really just depends on what fits best for you. There were times when we parked that the X would have been too long, but that was rare. As far as the pop top goes, we have not had any concerns based on the locations we have stayed. If there is a concern, would just leave it down for that night and have alternate sleeping arrangements. There are options to make a bed out of the front two passenger seats and our son has slept under the murphy bed when we were unable to pull the tent out. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any additional questions!

Awesome, I think you'll really like it. I have a 59P which does not have a generator, but the 59PX obviously does. It is a stand alone generator so it will power the AC outlets without being plugged up to shore power. The 12 volt and usb outlets will work via the coach batteries without the generator or shore power. We do leave a thin mattress topper in the pop top and we store the ladder up there as well when not in use. My kids are 16 and 13. They aren't as careful as I am, but they haven't broke anything so far! As far as the kids seats, they actually aren't too bad. We've driven with the kids most about 8 hours in a day before and no complaints. Thanks again and let me know if you have any more questions! 👍

We typically don’t sleep on city streets. We have slept at gas stations like Flying J & Pilot and in some residential neighborhoods while visiting friends and family. We typically try to book a camp site at a state or national park when traveling, but there are a fare amount of BLM (Bureau of Land Meanagement) lands in certain areas that you can stay for free; especially out west. As far as gas mileage goes, on average we see about 17 ish per gallon overall. Not too bad considering the height and weight of the van. Just let me know if you have any more questions. I'm worred about this van staying cool enough for aninals in tow. I asked my sales guy about insulation and he laughed and said we should only expect temp. to change by 20% from outdoor temp with 2023 solis air-conditioner. Your experience with temp?
@CarolinaCampervan
Жыл бұрын
I have the 59P which doesn’t have the installed A/C like the 59PX. We do have a portable A/C that we use during the summer months. I would say the insulation is adequate, but not exceptional. I have heard that the A/Cs in vans / small RVs do not cool like an A/C in your house. So I would say a cross the board, the salesman figure of 20% is probably accurate in hot, hot weather. There have been several Solis owners that have added additional insulation to the van. Personally, I would never leave my dog in a van just in case the A/C fails while I’m out and about. Thanks for the question and have an awesome weekend! 👍
