More to come. Weather looks good to film another portion of Acadia on Wednesday.

I'm planning to do the whole coast, and even re-do some old ones. We'll see how far I get, since I'm also doing the Winter Bird Atlas above Greenville and Jackman again this winter. Ouch! Not enough time!

Great film Bob thank you, brilliant scenery, fantastic birds and great commentary! Big seawatch fan here too, most of mine is done on the East Lincolnshire coast line looking out across the North Sea and The Wash.

Thanks. I would LOVE to seawatch there, too.

Haha, so right about us seeing that shrike.

I think this was only the second shrike in Maine that I've ever seen singing. It surprised me, too, especially in early winter. I'd be less surprised toward spring.

Great birding. You have lots of birds around in winter in Main. How's the weather at this time of year? I thought everything is under snow? I like your birding style. 👍

Actually, that's the surpising thing. Maine gets lots of snow, but right next to the ocean, sea breezes and warmer air tends to remove or thin the snow cover. Plus some of the best sites have roads next to them, and the beaches have no snow due to tides and wind. A cold wind is really the only impediment, so that's the forecast I watch.

@@Bob_Duchesne That's great. Which place you would recommend to visit for sure if I go to Maine for birding in winter months or in summer?

@@FollowThomas For winter, both sections of Acadia National Park (Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Peninsula) are hard to beat. It's not just the birds. It's the roads that run along the shoreline, making access easy. If there is one place that can beat them, it's Marginal Way in Ogunquit. For five good spots in southern Maine, see kzitem.info/news/bejne/0G6IqWiHbmlodpg.

Surprised you didn't mention Harlequin Duck as they have been pretty reliable at Blueberry Hill last few years and popping up at the other spots in the middle portion. Also, I was curious about predicting/timing wreck watching. When should I go checkout schoodic for best chance at Murres and Dovekies?

Indeed, I was planning to include Harlequin Ducks. I had them every visit last winter, but no visits this winter. I decided to opt for lowering expectations, and didn't include them. But I was tempted! I had a near perfect day for finding them on my latest visit, and was disappointed to come up empty. (I had an awesome flock at Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth this afternoon - highly entertaining.) In general, I prefer high tide at Schoodic. That's when I've had thick-billed murres on multiple occasions. It's not that they prefer high tide. It's just that they might forage closer when tide covers the shoreline rocks. I haven't had a dovekie there before, but my best views ever were across Frenchman's Bay in Southwest Harbor at high tide.

8.5x42 Swarovskis. Love 'em. Much of the video is shot on a Canon 80d with a 100-400mm lens.
