• ROUTE GUIDE
Things didn't go quite according to plan for this hike. Winter had arrived on the west coast of Scotland and after a few days of heavy snow I was eager to get out into the mountains but my original plan was scuppered because of that very snow!
Plan A was to head to Glen Coe to climb a munro or two but the road was blocked by snow so I had to choose a hill closer to home in Morvern.
Plan B was to hike up Beinn Iadain, a shapely basalt peak dominating the north of the Morvern peninsula. But again the snow on the road slowed my progress towards the start of the hike. I only had a few hours of daylight left!
Plan C! Hike as far as I could towards Beinn Iadain (you can see Beinn Iadain at 03:54 and 07:23) and reach a high point to enjoy the view. Progress was slow through deep snow but I managed to get to the modest lump of Monadh Meadhoin (350m) (06:45).
It was a shame not to get up a higher peak and this turned into a very short hike but it was great to be out in decent Arctic conditions. As you can see in the film, the weather changed a lot in just a few hours from heavy snow to bright sunshine as showers passed through on the northerly airflow. A really beautiful hike and a good work out hiking through that deep snow!

• MOUNTAIN SAFETY
Remember that hiking and mountain climbing can be dangerous. The videos on my channel are for entertainment only (other than where specified). Always prepare well and be willing to abandon a trip if it becomes dangerous due to weather or unexpected trail conditions. If you are new to hiking and the great outdoors it's always a good idea to go with a guide or a more experienced companion. And remember - give the wildlife some space, leave no trace, go quietly and enjoy it out there!
• A word on DRONES
I know how annoying it can be to hear a drone whizzing about when you are trying to enjoy the peace and solitude of wild places. I'm also aware of the potential to disturb wildlife with them. I always avoid flying the drone when there are other hikers around. It's one of the reasons I tend to hike at less popular times of day and in mid-week and I avoid using the drone if I do see others nearby. I never fly a drone towards wildlife or where birds are likely to be nesting.
