On The Barge Canal with the 2021 GT Zaskar LT. Purchased from Wiggle dot com. XL frame. Rider: 6'4"/240 pounds.
Easy 2021 Winter? Meteorologists, are wrong...again. Why when there is a month of single digit temperatures, do these crazy scientists always proclaim "The warmest Winter on record."? I call bullshit on that.
Oh. Right. The 2021 GT Zaskar LT, is a beauty in the snow. The hardtail handles with confidence & the low toptube, gives ya that control unlike a cross-country bike.
The 29x2.35 tires are great. And removing them from the 30mm WTB rims, is a joy, unlike the 29x2.5 tires on a 30mm rim, which can require a hacksaw to remove. I am soon to update the rear tire with a Teravail or Vittoria, whichever is available.
The Suntour's Zeron fork, flows nicely over bumps, big, small, and harsh. And I would have no hesitation putting the Suntour brand against Rockshox or Fox MTB forks. Seems most MTB magazines and websites, only give high ratings to products that cost a fortune. Honestly, how many of us purchase a thousand-dollar suspension fork or a $12K carbon bike? I'd put the GT Zaskar LT, against them any day, in any weather.
The dropper post, can stick in freezing temperatures. I keep mine on one setting. Dropper posts are basically a luxury item, and I can live without. Twenty-plus years of MTB riding...I need no stink'n dropper post.
Grips? Yip. The grips get cold & wet, they will slide off!! Nearly broke my wrist when the left grip slid right off. #GTbikes , really needs lock-on grips. pathetic that a hardtail, at this price level, does not have lock-on grips. What-the-hell GT!?
I say SRAm GX, a couple times. Sorry 'bout that. It is in fact, SRAM SX. And the Sram SX 12-speed has been flawless for a thousand miles. Riding every day, any weather condition. Have yet to adjust the derailleur and shifter. The only noticeable concern the past couple days is a click-sound in the bottom bracket. And I'm not messing-with-it until I must.
Oh FYI: Riding in Winter on a hardtail, ya may want to consider a front 35mm inner rim width. It will give ya more grip/traction, when a few inches of snow are on the roads.
The bike lights are Victagen, Hooot, and Canway. All ordered through Amazon. Very bright, day or night, and the seatpost lights I've had over one year(Hooot lights), and they function perfectly, even in bad weather. That's quality for fifteen dollars.
