Brilliant video I’m mark just subscribed to the channel I live in Wirral have done all my life I’m 41 so seen some changes over the years. It’s so nice seeing the development of Birkenhead docks starting to take shape I think it’ll look great when it’s done. I remember thinking to myself 20 years ago something needs to be done with this area it really could be nice with the right investment I’m so glad there developing the central hydraulic tower there that’s very historic I’m so into history so glad it’s being saved. I’m hoping to these plans for Birkenhead town centre gets done to because that’s really like a ghost town now sadly. It proves though with right investment and right people a place really can be turned round. As you said you just have to be patient. Keep them coming.

Thanks very much for your great comment. I like to get positive feedback from locals! I just find that area fascinating. It’s a shame it has taken so long for redevelopment to start and it seems to be going very slowly. I love the history snd heritage on both sides of the Mersey. I grew up just to the south of the Mersey - in Stockport! Many thanks for subscribing.

Thanks - due to other commitments I am limited in the number of videos I can put out. I can just about manage one every two weeks. They take a fair amount of time to edit. I hope that next year I will have more time. I'm very happy with how my channel is progressing and appreciate all the positive comments I'm getting.

Sorry but the visualisation looked bland to me. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Hope a lot of these projects don’t stall and come into fruition. I will be six feet under by the time it’s finished. Another great, informative video. Thank you

Many thanks - everyone has their own reaction, the quality of the image was very detailed, the vision is a bit 'spacey' - that's not necessarily a compliment! Always appreciate your comments.

Great video! Hopefully another part of the project will start soon. Year by year they seem to start a new one. I cannot see the skyscraper actually happening as that was a very early image. Then liverpool waters came around so that got the limelight for skyscrapers. I hope this scheme picks up Birkenhead as it is a lovely town when you takeaway the poverty and reputation.

Hello Do you know if the restoration on London Rd Fire Station MCR has stalled. I HAVEN’t seen any work going on for a while. Thank you
@AidanEyewitness

I read somewhere that it was taking longer than expected due to the extra requirements of the historic listed building but that was a while back. We waited years for the restoration to go ahead, let’s hope it’s not going to be years before it’s finished. I’m a bit concerned, to be honest. :(

Another interesting video. Concerning the disused branch of the Birkenhead to Liverpool tunnel, I doubt whether that will ever come into use again. To do so would mean re-introducing traffic lights in the tunnel, holding back Liverpool-bound vehicles from the main entrance in Birkenhead. Similarly, traffic in the central lane from Liverpool would also be delayed as any vehicle waiting to use the restored exit has to wait for the lights to change to green so they can cross the two lanes. I don't know when this exit was decommissioned, possible the sixties or seventies, but my father used to use it all the time in the fifties and then the delays were excessive. Besides, if it was brought back in to use, we would lose a valuable often-used filming location.

Many thanks for this information. And amazing to hear about it when it was still in use. So the spur on the other side is still in use as it doesn’t need traffic light control.
@anthonyphilips7171
Жыл бұрын
That's correct. The Liverpool spur is still in use, but only as an exit. In the main tunnel, Liverpool-bound traffic from Birkenhead has to be in the left to be able to turn to use the spur, with the right lane traffic not being permitted to cross lanes, thereby eliminating the need for traffic lights. Once inside the spur the traffic has two lanes to choose from before emerging facing the Liver Building, left for heading south or city centre, right for heading north. While traffic lights are in use at the exit now, I remember in the fifties / early sixties the traffic controlling system then was by means of a white-gloved policeman in a raised protective booth. There are old photographs available on-line showing that this Liverpool spur was also once an entrance as there are the toll collection booths visible, so there also must have been traffic lights inside where it joined the main tunnel.@@AidanEyewitness
