In this vlog, we explore the socio-emotional, moral, and spiritual development that takes place during late adulthood. Drawing from Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development, particularly the "integrity vs. despair" stage, we discuss how older adults reflect on life and achieve emotional resilience (Erikson, 1950). Additionally, we refer to Kohlberg’s stages of moral development, which explain the progression of moral reasoning in later years (Kohlberg, 1981).
We also delve into the role of spirituality, which often deepens with age. Research suggests that many older adults turn to spirituality to find meaning and peace in their lives (Preston, n.d.). Furthermore, religion plays a significant role in promoting well-being and offering a sense of purpose during later years (Kaplan, 2023).
Join us as we examine the psychological and developmental changes that occur, backed by research and theoretical insights.
