I have always been good at gwent I was a natural at it. My strat is to keep my deck packed with high powered unit cards and two clear skies, two weather cards of choice. Then I focus on having a bigger hand. Sometimes I will even goat an NPC into draining their hand in the 1st round just so I have that advantage. Powerful cards+ card advantage basically means you can bruteforce a lot of NPCs with unit power alone. I always keep a couple decoys if a round doesn't go my way and I want a card back. Medic cards and decoys can be chained in a really op way.

This game actually shows how much you can think 2 or 3 steps ahead of the opponent...On my first playthrough, i dont even care about Gwent because I want to learn the storyline as fast as i can...on my second playthrough, I went to every single undiscovered locations and then stack up my cards, buys them whenever the shopkeepers have any cards... Once i start winning, I went to every town with shopkeepers to challenge them and they in return, give me cards...This game is super fun...like a card game of chess

Later on, having Biting Frost(s) in your deck is important -- especially when facing off against Monster decks. Also, Scorch works wonders as well; but be careful while using it. If you don't know what you're doing, and the highest card(s) on the field are yours, you'll scorch your own without even realizing it. Spy cards and Decoys are important too. Each Spy will give you 2 additional draws. Or, if you know you're going to lose the round, use the Decoys to take a card of your choosing back before the round ends. Just as Rob says, live to fight another day. I may be wrong about this last bit, but I believe the high/dark numbered cards are immune to special cards though: weather, spies and scorches. I'm still learning how to play Gwent myself.

Hes explenation was very good however hes decitions was that of some1 doing there first game. In both round 1 for example, U have a spy card and in general its always a good ide to use them right away unless u going for some high lvl strategy so using any spy card in round 1 is never a bad ide. Especially if u decide that u are gonna lose this round then adding power to the opponent dosent matter and it will give u 2 cards in return. If this was meant to be a very beginner tutorial u should have removed the spy from your deck becouse the starting deck dosent have 1 or atleast played it in a way that would make sense. There is no reson holding on to a spy if u gonna let the opponent win anyway.

Honestly i love gwent and it came pretty easy to me. Just need to put in the time for a few games and you can learn the system pretty easily and build up the strats. I didnt google anything and figured out most tips pretty quickly. Dandelion is a great card, and so it the medic for NR. Decoys are great and go well with spies. Ik this game is 5 years old so literally nobody cares about this comment. Well I say Witcher 3 will never get old. Until Witcher 4 comes out.

Nilfgaardian deck is OP (spychain is insane) , Northern Realms is also OP with catapult and commander's horn (instant 64 power), Scoiatel is balanced with many healers (spy recycler) . Monsters is the weakest IMO because it is predictable and countered by biting frost + Villentretenmerth = GG

Great video, thank you! Can someone explain to me why the standalone game Gwent has only 2 lanes and the Gwent in The Witcher 3 has three lanes with these weather mechanics? Why did they change this? Can I read about it somewhere?
@BasementMinions
5 жыл бұрын
I can't read about why those changes were made as it's a long development history. The main reason they swapped to two lanes was to cut down on card text, and give the art room to breathe. The weather change was just a balancing decision, weather in its original state was simply too difficult to balance and it made the game very swing heavy (going from a lot of points to almost no points) so not especially fun to play against. As someone who played a massive amount of Gwent in the original Witcher 3 and has over 600 hours total from the original closed beta to current stand-alone Gwent I personally enjoy the changes they've implemented as it's made the game more balanced and I'm very excited for where it will go in the future. :)
