Also here's a helpful method of farming: When you destroy a monster nest, loot everything BUT leave atleast one item in the nest. Walk a distance from the nest (not too far, just until the icon is out of range on the minimap) Then meditate ~3 days, go back to the nest and it'll be refilled. Especially helpful for finding red mutagens, greater runestones, etc.

Tips: Use axii when fighting against higher level humans, this will stun them and if you attack them during this stun there is a good chance it will trigger an animation where you kill them immediately, no matter how high their current health or level is(during this animation you are also invulnerable). Helped me breeze through locations such as bandit camp of which where several levels higher than me, even on death march. Good for leveling up quicker in the early-game. However i think this only works if you are using a sword, battle axel or maces dont work since i guess they don’t have any special animations. My second tip is to always click in on the notice boards, this will uncover all the points of interest(will show up as question marks on the map)in close area to the notice board which makes it easier for you to find experience and loot

A couple tips I have is use the B button dodge instead of the A button roll in MOST circumstances. The i-frames from the dodge are enough to avoid all damage and you won't be too far away to strike back while the enemy is vulnerable. Also you don't need stamina for the dodge but do for the roll so signs can be spammed which helps. Only roll when enemies have long lasting attack or very wide attacks (like the chort charging in the tiny cave) but you'll mostly get away with just the dodge and be able to capitalise on open targets 95% of the time. Also, don't just use Quen or Igni, Axii is very useful against human enemies (especially shields) and smaller monsters and will slow and animation lock big monsters (that don't have armoured moves) so you can stop their attacks. Yrden is great not just for specters but will slow enemies inside as well and you can take advantage of back attacks to maximise damage! All the signs are useful so don't just lock into 1 sign (unless you're running a tank Ursine build, which focuses on Quen but even then, Quen can be self sustaining so using Axii and such will help massively) This one is more of a suggestion but don't just look up the best builds and copy them. While Piercing Cold and Euphoria are considered the best builds in the game (Euphoria being super op), you won't learn much just copying the most op builds that let you face roll the game. Make your own builds and own fun on your first playthrough, it really does add to the charm and you will find a play style that works for you, instead of copying a build that after an hour or 2 gets boring because you just one shot everything and there's no challenge. Also, making your own builds gives you a very good idea of what skills work best for your playstyle and you will learn why things work the way they do so will better understand the op builds! Also they're not hard to make yourself and you can sub in skills you know you like to use rather than sticking to a playstyle that you might not like and no one wants to play in a way they don't enjoy just for bigger numbers! Collect junk and weapons/armour, even the really crappy kind (white) and sell them to appropriate vendors (armour to armoursmiths, weapons to blacksmiths, junk to traders, food and drinks to Inn keepers). This way you will rake in cash like no tomorrow. On top of this NEVER leave a blacksmith or armoursmith with money in their pockets, always sell til they have as close to 0 then store any leftover gear. You can then craft components and gear then sell the stuff you gathered to always be positive in sales. This is especially important in B&W when you make Grandmaster gear because ethat can set you back a good 10k up to 20k+ so sell all gear and store what you can't until you can sell it when you spend money on crafting. You will rake cash for days and never have to wait to get the gear you wanna craft. Do NOT sell alchemy or crafting components. They weigh 0 and you can make easy money just by selling junk and stuff you find. Selling crafting components and alchemy ingredients is bad because you wanna be able to craft what you need when you need it and later game weapons and armour will cost some alchemy ingredients as well. Also frequently check your alchemy tab to make sure you've crafted or can craft everything you can. Alchemy is very strong and gives you a great boost to your damage and survivability. Just a few more advanced tips that will go a long way to you having fun and enjoying the world of The Witcher!

Tip #1 Get Gourmet skill, when playing on Death March. This is the skill that will carry you until, you learn attack patterns and you wont need to heal up, or get the right decoctions. Tip#2 Quen sign its just broken and you don't even need to upgrade it, unless you fighting wraiths(use the purple sign) you can fight anything with Quen. Tip#3 Explore, especially in the first map, once you finish discovering all the question marks in the first map you will have enough exp and skill points to make a good build Tip#4 Stock on repair kits really useful when you just want to explore and don't want to be going back to fix your equipment I play this on DeathMarch, and its honestly hard in the beginning until everything clicks, and you start murdering foes. PS. If you want trophies for PS4 you will have to get spoiled if you want the full experience you may not get the trophies due to choices in the story or side quest both can affect.

If you could use Aard to sail the boats in the game that would be cool.

at the start of the game hoard any master, magical or relic weapons and armor in your chest and sell them to the weapon and amor smiths in toussaint from the blood and wine dlc. You should be around level 34 before you start it and it will not be available to you until you rescue Dandelion. The smiths in Toussaint buy weapons for around 85% of their actual price and armor for a little under 50%. if you can't wait that long then sell weapons to the blacksmith south of hierarch square in novigrad for around 70% and armor to the amorer in hierarch square for like 40%. The blacksmith usually doesn't have much money though and takes while to regain it. one you do the of swords and dumplings quest though you should be able to trade with hattori for a similar rate and he has much more money. other than that don't bother selling to anyone else except maybe the ones at Khaer trolde in skellige but I don't know. if you want to find out who has the best prices always carry one unique sword and one unique armor set to compare prices at different merchants you come across to see who you should trade with. for me it was the first relic sword i found and a random blue amor piece.

Overall this is a pretty helpful video. I'm a newcomer/returning player myself as I got the game back when the complete edition originally came out a couple years ago. When I first played I only got to the point where I left White Orchard, so still pretty early on all things considered. I'm going back and trying to find some tips and tricks but a lot of those videos are from YEARS ago, when the game was first released. Naturally some of those older videos are outdated so it was nice to find a more recent one. A lot of the tips you gave I already knew but I appreciated you going more in-depth with them. Personally, I think I'm actually just needing more intermediate tips since I already have a grasp of the basics (meditation, oils, etc.) Stuff like where to buy or find diagrams for better armor and weapons, and what a decent early game build is because I always feel like I'm screwing myself over with my build. For years I've always heard people say that Alchemy is just soooo OP but when I look at the skills I'm just like, how? I know that's more of a later game build and you actually need enough points and gear/materials to properly make it work so I'd just like to know what a decent EARLY game build is. I know it's an RPG so you can TECHNICALLY choose whatever you want but it seems like if you don't want to screw yourself over you pretty much have to go with fast attacks and quen or igni (Quick side note, I'm pretty sure quen is pronounced more like "kwen", like more of a "kw" sound at the beginning, like if you were to say "quick" or "quit" for example. That's just how I've always heard others pronounce it.) Also, I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this because all the posts I find are from years ago, but do you know if you HAVE to equip general skills (the yellow tree, like gourmet) into a slot to get the benefit? I've heard people recently say that those ones are just passive and you don't have to put them in a slot but I really can't tell. Anyway, aside from all that rambling just wanted to say this was a helpful introduction for newcomers and I look forward to what you have coming next! Bonus tip: In group fights the lock-on mechanic can be kind of finicky, but when you're in a 1-on-1 battle (like the fight with the bear in this video) the lock-on is MUCH more helpful in dodging and landing your attacks.

TheTurtleShell thank you and i really appreciate the support, i do have have more in depth tips and some build guides for or at least direction for starting out, and the great thing about the game is there are a good amount of OP build from just basic melee/sword attacks to magic/signs and alchemy really playing a huge factor being able to use high level potions or craft gear in general is HUGE game changer, but yes i do get what you mean as a intermediate/ starter build in a direction you want to go, i can definitely cover more builds

Also regarding combat...I know guys who see Parry as just a defensive move and just desperately keep attacking. But it's more than that. It does block an attack, but the instant you hear an enemy sword ding off your parry, you can almost always Fast Attack and get a really good shot in on him that he won't be able to dodge. It can also knock him down so you can really tear into him while he's helpless. Parry isn't just a shield move; it can set up a really good flurry of blows.

I know this is a pretty old vid and all but think as a witcher 3 player with almost 500 or so hours that has learned like everything about the game, I feel like I should say some tips for all the people of all skill levels. 1. Yknow those annoying ass mushrooms that leave that nasty poisonous cloud in some quests? Just use igni on them and they will go away, for a while 2. If you are in a dense situation and roach decides to be a bitch and spawn way further from you than needed, run until its icon is no longer visible on the map and call it again 3. Another thing about roach, if you have really distant places to go at and there are no fast travels nearby them, you can just hold the gallop button on a road and it will automatically follow it, having infinite stamina. This is probably the most useful one that I learned 4. As another person in the comments said use axii a lot more than you do now, but not only axii. Yrden and Aard are extremely useful in a lot of cases for example with Aard you can knock out an enemy and insta kill it with the quick attack button, Yrden can slow everybody down and the critical chance is almost 100% 5. Of course you can get the gourment ability at first, but other 2 abilities that are really useful are the infinite place of power bonus and the more inventory space. I use those 2 in my fresh start death march save and they are basically carrying me 6. To avoid Geralt dying cuz of a 2 meter fall you can spam the jump button and he will roll avoiding any damage, this of course got a height limit so careful with it. Another tip at the same topic is to always spam the jump button while trying to climb something, for example the fortress where you need to fight a wyvern and the game wants you to go underwater to get inside, you can just time your jump and also spam the jump button to the left of the bridge that you are on, Geralt will hopefully catch on the wall and climb up, but if he doesnt just spam the jump button it will be likely that he will roll upwards and climb the wall. Another thing to note on this topic as well is that you can control the way geralt jumps, rolls, climbs while midair 7. Use the small dodge button more than the roll, the dodge can get you out of most attacks thrown at you except maybe draconids and griffins 8. Whenever you fight a draconid or griffin, for example the first griffin at the start of the game, you can lock on him while its flying and spam the crossbow geralt will aim automatically at it. Another really useful thing that i always do is using Aard to knock out them. The game says Aard is effective against draconids and griffins for a reason. Whenever they are flying doesnt matter the altitude, you can use the Aard sign in their direction it will have the same effect as the crossbow 9.This is a tip for fist fights, the best strategy to take them out isnt trying to parry everything as most people do. What I do is: - parry the first attack that the enemy instantly throws the moment the fight starts (pretty bullshit if you ask me but its predictable at some point) - use 2 fast punches and dodge backwards (when I say dodge I mean the other one not the roll) - go a bit forward and use a fast attack when the enemy is throwing his strong one 10. People always seem to forget these 2 things so I will remind you of them. Not only humans hitting you from behind will do more damage, but monsters as well. Next time you are in a big nekkers gang and you die in 3 hits on death march you'll understand why. Every single time folk forget about this so, EVERY ENEMY BEFORE THEY ATTACK THEIR HEALTH BAR GLOWS RED, thats the sign that they are about to attack you so use that in your advantage and this is the most important tip of them all 11. Every single enemy in the game let it be human or monster, got a SET way of attacks no matter the circumstance. A wraith for example will always after teleporting away, will teleport behind or infront of you and attack once, then doing another 2 hits in a fast pace, for this you need to dodge 2 times or to roll once As I said in the beginning I know this vid is pretty old, but people will most likely come to this vid for help. Hopefully everything I said here will be of use especially the combat ones that people NEVER talk about and I hate it, thats the reason people get away from the game more than the money, the combat gets too overwhelming and a new player will not know what to do in certain circumstances

That's going to save me a lot of time and I probably wouldn't have noticed it until much later in the game if at. Wouldn't of even thought of it being an option most likely. 👍

Good video. I shelved the game twice only because I had the game then sold all my games including systems, then had a system for 6 months got the game again and then they both got stolen so it became a little stale but I'm almost ready to start playing it again and this video was great to get started on crafting and all that good stuff. Thanks

Decent video, but here are some things I want to point out: Quicksave with F5 will save you a lot of time, don't bother with manual saves unless you are at an important moment of the game. Tip about Roach: go to the HoS merchant north-east of the map, same place where you can find the runewright as soon as you reach Velen and then win that horse race for the 85 stamina saddle and then buy the blinders and saddlebags with 100 inventory weight, it's about 250-260 crowns eacy, really cheap. Don't waste coin on other saddlebags, like the one in White Orchard, it's not worth it. You really don't know your way about skills, gourmet is really useless, you can loot food anywhere, I don't believe I've ever finished my food stacks in this game, and your swallow is replenished after every meditation, so gourmet will just waste one of your skills slot. Ignore signs. Yea, you read that correctly. Not saying a sign build is bad, but it kinda is to me. You can use default quen at lower levels, but don't invest any points into this tree, a combat-alchemy build is the best in this game, combined with feline armor and bear swords in base game, and manticore in B&W. The ONLY general skill you will want to get is cat school techniques, only later on in the game in B&W you might want to get metabolic control for more toxicity. So you can get an idea, my skills at level 30 look like this: Combat - Muscle memory, Resolve, Precise blows, Undying, Whirl, Razor focus. General - Cat school techniques. Alchemy - Acquired tolerance, Heightened tolerance or Poisoned blades (ignore Heightened tolerance if you want to go for Endure pain, they cancel each other), Protective coating, Refreshment and Synergy. Later you might want to replace Refreshment with Killing spree. In B&W go for EUPHORIA, nothing else. Also upgrade your potions and oils, it might seem and obvious tip but I see videos from people on youtube who still have tier 1 potions at level 30 or more... Places of power: there is not always an enemy lurking near a place of power, except White Orchard. In Velen and Skellige none of them have monsters guarding them so you can collect almost all of them as soon as you reach Velen. Only 1 in Velen is related to a main quest (Keira's) and 2 in Skellige (one to a main quest - Philippa, one to a side quest - Cerys). So you can get 14 places of power very early in the game.

Initially I was hesitant in buying Witcher 3, since I prefer graphics over gameplay, but then I saw The Witcher on Netflix in 2019 & felt the urge for more from the lore. I bought this game in February 2020 & I am so surprised that why didn’t I buy this back in 2015. This game truly defines the generation of single player story driven gaming. The battle of Kaer Morhen mission is a Masterpiece, never ever seen before in any other game.

Most important tip. Understand how armor works. Simply prioritize percentage resistances against certain damage types over the general armor rating. So, early game; get Nilfgaardian armor set. Mid game; get Undvik armor set. After that do whatever you want. Also, use your potions and oils. Especially in conjunction with protective coating. (25% damage reduction is insane, paired with the right armor can actually take you up to 100% damage reduction) And make sure you turn off enemy upscale when fighting certain enemies as it's just broken, e.g. rats, djinn, etc.

I disagree with buying upgrades for roach early in the game. Save your money. Most stuff you loot from containers is weightless or light. The only time I had a weight problem in White Orchard was when I decided to look all the bodies in the battlefield, which I just called roach, ran to a fast travel, fast traveled to the smith and merchant and sold it all and went back for more. As early as you can, try to get involved in the horse races near Crow's Perch. Winning those races will net you free upgrades to roach. I suggest taking the Strong Back skill early on and "swapping it in" if your weight ever gets too high and you need it, otherwise, keep it inactive. Use horse races for upgrades to Roach, there are more near Novigrad, including a seemingly illegal one (only after winning the regular ones) and then another set in Skellige. If I recall correctly, it is on the Eastern isle in the town of Larvik that you can start the quest for horse races, if you want to get that and the upgrades for Roach asap. Likewise, I think Gourmet is a waste of a skill. Food is everywhere, you should never have to buy it and all gourmet does it make your food last 20 minutes instead of the short time it usually does. Just remember to keep using your food as you take damage.

1) Picture what kind of character you want to play and then read a build guide to give you pointers and ideas. If you play the game organically you'll gimp yourself. 2) Don't be too eager to ditch the start game Kaer Morhen armor. It's one of the best low to mid level. 3) Do every quest in White Orchard and discover all of the locations before moving on. This is valuable experience and resources. 4) Potions are a crucial part of the game play. Be prepared. Potions, potions, POTIONS. 5) Look on The Witcher wiki and see what it takes to make Repair Kits. Start collecting early. 6) Igni is worth investing in no matter what play style you use. Damage over time, crowd control, stopping attacks, etc. 7) You don't have to fight everything in the wildness areas. Is that cave bear worth the effort just for the hide and fat?
