An eloquent expression of the refinement of skillsets by repetition and refinement. Whether a writer, musician, pilot, surgeon , craftsman or photographer, concentrating on core skills over a period of time will bring improvement . As amateurs, we often perceive our initial poor results as failures rather than stepping stones. Focusing on one set of techniques and technology is more likely to bring rewards than jumping from one approach to another. Thank you Thorsten for once again for giving the broader perspective .

A very inspirational video. Nice to know you were staying within meters of my apartment here in Tokyo. In fact my balcony appears in the background of one of your photos inside the Okura. That hotel is iconic and the fact they preserved the famous saucer chair lobby arrangement from the original kind of proves some of the points you are making. Excellent stuff.

I think repetition, as you demonstrate it it, plus simplicity of design = elegance of form. The lines and abstracts are a combination of zen and the clean lines of mid-century modern American furniture. Loved the video and the photos.

'Pillars of the Earth' is a crazy book. My friend bought it for me but the plot of the story sounded very boring and was skeptical with this tome of a book. After the first 25 pages, I read that entire book that way you drink water when you are extremely thirsty.

I keep giving it to friends, family and they probably have the same experience as you. "990 pages about building cathedrals?"

These are actually good points. This is why wealthy cultures almost always are very organized and "boring". In contrast, poor cultures tend to be unpredictable, chaotic, messy.
