The "ostalgie", a neologism that derives from the words ost, this in German and nostalgie, refers to the feeling of nostalgia for the past of the extinct German Democratic Republic, when this part of the country was part of the so-called Soviet bloc.

Every November 9, the Germans commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall. But not everyone celebrates it in the same way: for many it is a date that causes mixed feelings.
30 years after the fall of the Wall that ushered in the reunification of Germany, some people miss the old days, especially those who lost a lot.
It must be remembered that almost 50% of workers in the East lost their jobs after reunification, since there was a monetary reform that caused wages to increase exponentially and companies simply lost competitiveness in the market and had to close due to its low productivity.
In the heart of the new city of Dresden, rebuilt after the bombings of World War II, there is a special place for "ostalgics": Die Welt der DDR, the world of the GDR, in Spanish.
It is a museum that offers an extensive exhibition on the daily life of the inhabitants of the extinct East Germany with objects from the time and reproductions. According to its employees, most of the visitors are East Germans. "It's a place to remember."
"Among the visitors there are older people who sit at desks as if they were in a GDR classroom and read old books that were used in schools at the time.
Although history has taken it upon itself to demonize the socialist past, many Germans have a romanticized idea of East Germany, saying: it wasn't all as bad as people think.
Among young people who did not live through that period, obviously nostalgia cannot spread, but nevertheless, many wonder, out of curiosity or the influence of their elders, what would have happened if nothing had been as it was.
The German healthcare model, for example, could have been much better if everything that was good about the old oriental model had not been abolished out of ideology.
Taking a ride in an old Trabi, dressing as in the distant 80s or going to museums is something that persists in many nostalgic people in a Germany that has followed a path in which these little things as opposed to new fashions make people feel many people, more german.
Although for us none of these things are our own, but rather the feelings of others, having attended these halls and streets with history has been like entering the tunnel of time.
