The audio with the rode mic with the Media Mod and the GoPro adapter is much better. One tip I have tried that makes the Media Mod audio better is to turn off wind noise blocking.

I have been a fan of the media mod on my GoPro 9, so yes, I think it's a great option. It kind of depends on what you plan to do with the camera. I like the sound of it over just the camera speakers for sure. Thanks for the video--subbed!

Thanks for the comment and sub - really means a lot. Make sure to check out some my other videos. Is your GoPro as glitchy as some of the ones I've heard about on social media?

Rode video GO, no question. Far too much echo/reverb on the internal mic. What is that LED voice meter you're using in the background please?

It's a hard comparison without outside environment noises. Like in my case while doing shopping content I get a lot of stuff interfering. Conversations from passers by, refrigerator sounds, doors slamming and shopping carts for instance. This is with the media mod on a hero 10 GoPro. The Rode is a very specific directional microphone for what's in front of it. Great for capturing cutting, chopping and crunchy type audio for cooking and basically anything directly in front of it. Lapel style is what I need to invest in because the media mod records at different levels depending on orientation and also catches too many sharp sounds. Great video and it looks like it did you well to get me in here😅

I like the first sound one with an external microphone as well .I was wondering if this works with the apeman cameras. Because all other Gopro attachments works with this camera?

Just a couple of quick comments. When editing, I always normalize audio. Background noise becomes an issue, and although the Rode sounds softer on your test, it also sounds cleaner. So the end result would likely be better. Second, the media mod offers an HDMI port with is much more important to me as a production person. Unfortunately many reviews have exposed a problem with the media mod that makes it unreliable and therefore not an addition I would pay such a premium price to add.

TBH...it has been YEARS since GoPro have genuinely innovated. The media mod should be the housing for the GoPro 13 and not a peripheral. Sick of the excessive cost of additional peripheries when at this juncture they should be built in as standard. Just more rinsing of customers for maximal profit.

I don’t think they make a profit.

@@kennylitch8933 Yeah wouldn't shock me. Even more ridiculous. Still worth picking up for a fraction of the price on ebay but brand new is shambolic. The 10 and 11 (yet to audit the 12) had absolutely abysmal overheat issues.. shame

I tried listening both with my headphones (Marshall Major III Bluetooth) and with the audio directly from my iMac. With headphones on, the best (IMO) was the Rode mic through the media mod, followed but the Rode mic through the mic adapter, with the media mod next and the internal mic last. With the internal mic (and to a lesser extent, with the media mod's mic), I could hear a background rumble, which were cut out by the Rode mic). However, listening to the audio from my iMac's built-in speakers was different experience. The media mod's mic sounded best, followed by the Gopro's internal mic. Possibly cos I couldn't hear the background rumble and the level of the audio recorded using the Rode mic seemed just a little lower.

I have been watching many youtube episode about the media mode and most of them says the audio mic is not good. I decided to buy a wireless mic instead, now I am searching for a media mod alternative with 2 ports only .where I can attach my wireless mic receiver audio plug and another port C for charging . I am still looking for now.

Having listened to a number of these reviews trying to figure out what’s best for my own two camera GoPro 9 setup, I’ve concluded that there doesn’t seem much difference between the in-built mic and the media mod mic. However, the Rhode mic arguably filterers a slightly more refined sound, but at lower less audible levels. So, for me it’s stick with the standard camera mic and go with a wireless Bluetooth lapel mic connected through a Ulanzi battery door. Simplest, most cost effective and easiest I feel, plus no faffing around with battery change issue that you get with a Media mod.

The Rode Mic. Sounds soo much better. I have a GoPro Hero 9 and when I use the MediaMod it sounds tinny. External is always better in my opinion. Thank you for a great review.

Ok In a controlled audio environment all 3 settings sound great. W/ rode wireless you get the best sound quality. But if you’re going to vlog outside or do something else in a uncontrolled audio environment that’s when the Media Mod comes in handy. Like you I prefer the mic adapter for the versatility but the media mod look more simple and professional.

I was drawn to this video by the first part of the title (with so many alternatives) cos I was hoping there would be alternatives to using the media mod or the mic adapter. But I guess you meant alternatives to the media mod that would still require the use of the mic adapter. I ended up ordering the media mod cos the price difference compared to getting the mic adapter wasn't all that much, especially with current additional 15% off. I'm not concerned about the mic that's part of the media mod cos I have a shotgun mic and a lapel mic that I've been using, initially with a digital SLR, more recently with my iPhone (with a 3.5mm to lightning adapter).

The Rode was the softest volume of all. The Media Mod and jntefnal mics were roughly equal.

I literally only want a media mod for the rail at the top of it to attach my VideoMic NTG. I don't need an $80 attachment haha. I'd love a $10 3D printed "case" that puts a rail at the top like the media mod. I bought a GoPro just to be able to mount my NTG above my monitor with the GoPro Jaws. Lol looks like I need another attachment. I thought the GoPro had a way to mount the mic without any extras needing to be purchased.
