What this gentleman is saying is true. Even as a Bengali when I went out of Bengal to study engineering, some people would refer to us as ‘Bangalis’, in a derogatory tone; that tribalism always existed among some Indians. And we Bengalis also had slangs for Hindi speaking people as well. It is after all a huge country but things have changed for better in the past couple of decades. As Babasaheb said , ‘ We are all Indians firstly and lastly’

I mean, India as a country is only 75 years old. But Empires and people and their languages and cultures have existed for at least 2500 years. Hey Frenchy, Little correction about 'acha/achi'. It should not be said as that guy had told you. Here, in the case of Khushboo, we should say "Khushboo acchi hai!" because in Hindi, even things have gender (either treated as male or female). Here, 'khushboo' is the subject of the sentence and this word is a female sounding word so it should be said as you had thought of how it would be. It doesn't depend on who is saying it as it only depends on the subject. People from NE India often get confused with such grammar but most people from NE talks like that guy but in reality, or grammatically, it should be as how I've mentioned above because when you go to North India, people will again try to correct you and you will get even more confused. Hehe! Hindi is Unique and interesting to learn. I'm also from NE India. Thank you for exploring Northeast India.

For the info and clarity let me put what this man spoke in the right context. People of Arunachal Pradesh have strong patriotism towards India since decades and that still continues. But what he faced in Delhi in 1980s was due to lack of awareness of people and nothing else. In 1980s there was hardly any medium to get info for common man like TV etc all over India, all they read were newspapers. And because of low incomes all over India and limited transportation people from north east hardly visited Delhi or other parts of the country. Therefore the people of Delhi especially those employed in low rank jobs like ticketing would not have exposure to people from north east who obviously look different from local people over there and then comes language barrier as well. Because of above factors they might have experienced such instances of unintented confusion but it was obviously not purposeful, the way it was sounding to me in the video. Besides that, there are obviously few bad apples in students community and which got highlighted in the video and not the majority who accepted him and were friendly to him. If that was not the case he would have run away from there after graduation and not run a successful business for 8 years. The fact that he spent a good 8 years in Delhi was heartening to hear, because it demonstrated how a person from north east had the opportunity to run a business in Delhi even in 1980s and was accepted and not obstructed by the local people. So I think it is really important to highlight everything to pass on the correct message. I wrote all this because I wanted to highlight that just like in other countries you would find a few bad apples in India also in every city but that is not systemic at all. But highlighting only the bad instances and not the good ones leads to that kind of impression. People are very accepting everywhere in India and you would usually not see any hostility which might be common in some other countries. But anyhow, really nice gentleman and great to see that he is now having a time of his life.

You were right about "Khushboo achchi hai". The smell in hindi is feminine in nature. Both male and female will say that khushboo achchi hai.

the more the people from different states mingle the more the barriers will collapse. eventually most of us will be more appreciative of others and less ignorant.
