Thanks for the video! I tried Framer before, and I could see how someone who is solely interested in design and is not willing to learn anything about development likes it, but it felt like a decent step down from Webflow (especially since Framer doesn't have classes). This seems like a much more head on competitor to Webflow, and will hopefully push Webflow to implement to cater toward development more. I'd for sure be interested in some more Wix Studio content. I know one of Webflow's biggest limitations is the e-commerce functionality being half-assed compared to Woocommerce or Shopify. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about Wix Studio for e-commerce websites.

You can add classes in Framer using overrides. Framer is also powered by React, which allows you to create your own code component.

I've been pretty interested in Wix since Velo and EditorX came out, the two of those together already had a lot of what Studio has. I have a feeling Webflow is written in a way that it would be hard or even impossible to expose the back-end code the way Wix has. They came out with this a long time after Webflow had been around, so they were able to engineer it specifically to have these capabilities, where Webflow is written to be a front-end tool. Just my guess. I still use Webflow more than wix but getting REALLY interested in WIX after this recent Studio Release...

I like the look of this new move that WIX made. Do you think it would be possible to build web apps in here? As Webflow seems restricted to things like an Airbnb or Job board clone.

It’s possible. I haven’t dug in enough. It’ll be up to us to test it! In theory you have access to the backend so this helps

I enjoy it so far. I don’t understand why they don’t give you full CSS properties out of the box though: for example a container doesn’t have options for gradient backgrounds (you can use Wix Studio CSS), the option to make an image a background in a container or controls for display blend modes. Individual border controls on containers etc. I’ve put these request in the request board. But yeah that Velo, Wix API and backend control opens a world of possibilities
@webflowandcode

Yeah. It would make sense to have free reign on any element. Arguable a container should be used for layout but in this situation you’re forced to create more HTML needlessly

“Library” “framework” and “language” get thrown around interchangeably when they are very much different. You’re right, this its not a language. I’d it’s more of a framework but I’ve not looked into it too much yet. It seems like It’s a layer on top on Node/JavaScript essentially which technically is a layer on top of ECMA Script.

the only problem for me with wix studio is after 320 px breakpoint the site will completly break you cant even understand whats going. Even with there only templates its the same issue. Am i overthink it or is this really an issue in 2023. The sites that are made in wp and other builders hold their responsiveness even after 220px i know today we dont have that small screens but i think it best to maintain the layout. what do you think? is it really an issue??.

Also, adding custom NPM packages and data sources seems vague to me. You can easily do that in Webflow too. If you hire JS developers to add custom code they would install any NPM packages inside a JS bundle and that's it. They can also subscribe to custom data sources unless Wix allows to fetch the data on the website build stage (which would be great for SEO)

The effort to go through the methods you’ve suggested (creating a JS library, installing NPM modules, hosting it online) is by far and away more laborious than the way you’re able to do it in Wix. Getting JS online isn’t straightforward.
