I have a 330 with a bigsby, it is by far one of my favorite guitars to play. I’ve used it in a rock context live and it is just a total wild animal on stage. I use it with a 60s Supro Big Star 2x12 and it’s always right at the edge of going bananas and it’s perfect. FWIW, it was a Little Barrie that got me into them as well. I’ve had mine for maybe 6-7 years now and it’s one of those that I’ll never sell. Pure magic. Yours sounds a little more focused than mine with those pickups (mine has the Gibson MHS-spec ones), mine maybe a little hairier, but both sound great.

Hollow and Semi-Hollow guitars are really magic. It's a more "visceral" approach to play them because you have this feedback that can go wherever it wants and you have to fight to control it. I get more satisfaction when i play a hollow guitar instead of a solid body.

Always great when Perky and Flat Eric drop a video! Ive been making all my electrics the last 15 years and the two I need to get to are a 330/Casino and and electric 12. My wife didn't believe me that guitars don't depreciate and often go up in value. Sold a mid 80s 360/12/64 Harrison model (that they have since improved) and it's really the only thing Ive sold I really regret. So this summer Im going to do my first hollow Strat and my first 12 string. Im even designing my own pickups for it. That alone should be interesting. Wizz are the only aftermarket pickups I have. I think I have 4 sets as I never liked humbuckers as they get muddy when you turn down. I learned by watching "midnight movies" in the 70s and seeing all the concert movies. Jimmy's LP cleaned up when he turned down. Wizz do that. Now I tend to use a Ge treble booster and that takes care of the clean up. Still, give me a Strat on stage or I feel nekked, What are the specs? Are they dipped? Best 330 ive heard.

Nice! Yeah the Wizz PAFs are lovely pickups. These are Alnico III - Alex said 8.4k for bridge and 7.5k for neck, but they measured a little lower than that when I got them. Think the bridge was about 8.1k (wrote the measurements down but lost the paper!)

Hi Joe. Sounds perfect through all the amps. I also saw the Barrie videos recently and thought I want those sounds!! I've got a p90 les paul std going into the romany 12, but find the neck pickup too strong and boomy (compared to bridge). I didn't hear any of that with your 330. Are the pickups low wound? Is that the key.. any other more readily available p90s that you would consider?

Boutique p90s have always seemed kind of silly to me given the real things aren’t that much more money. Either way that set sounds amazing.

Terrific sounds! In a way I think you have something like an original early '60s Casino on your hands? The basic idea, being fully acoustic, matches and George's Casino also had a Bigsby. Really, impressed with all the tonal options you've got going there - the best I have ever heard from an acoustic electric style - bravo! Took a look at the Wizz site and that's got me thinking . . . oh, dear. Eastman sort of do a riff on this 330/Casino idea - smaller body with PAF and/or P90s that I have my eye on.

Thanks :-) Yeah, old 60s Casinos were basically identical to the old 330s in everything but name - they had the same Gibson P90s. Sorry if I've started an expensive ball rolling for you! hah

What are the Specs on the pickups, please? They might sound a bit hotter than vintage to my ears, 'though, at the moment, I'm only listening on an iPhone!

Alex said he’d recommend Alnico III - 8.4k for the bridge & 7.5k. I did measure them before I installed them and I think they were a bit lower than that, but I managed to lose my notes….think the bridge measured about 8.1k IRL.

Do you find that the tuning goes off a little when you use the bigsby?

Not really, no - unless you treat it like a Floyd Rose, it’s pretty good. But any guitar needs to be properly set up to work with a trem system - the nut especially needs to be accurately cut so that nothing binds as the strings slide through them. 👍
