I have to laugh (because otherwise i will cry!) I just turned 57!!! Wanted to do illustration since college but never did . . . just stuck to my graphic design. I'm thinking that I too have come upon these video's by Divine guidance . . . I love your advice about practicing one thing - being focused, because right now I am all over the place having trouble deciding. There's so much available on the internet!!

Dear Nanette, thank you so much for your comment. Graphic design is such a good foundation for great illustration. It's also visual communication. I feel you have a wealth to bring to the industry with your years of experience ❤️ I know this comment is from so many month ago but I think of you. How are you getting on? If you like you can email me over on my website. I also have a free mini class for portfolio development based on two of my KZitem videos in case that's of interest. I'd love to hear from you :) hope you are doing well

Hello, sorry I was away and only reply now :D I'm so glad you found these videos helpful and they helped you decide to take the course. For me it was a really worthwhile investment and I'm already working on another idea for a book. Now I know exactly what is expected and this really helps me to work on the right areas :)

This is the first video I am watching from you, so I don't know where you are now with your work and career but since you are in the UK, why not apply for an MA in Children's Book Illustration in Cambridge? It's probably the best course around for this field and you will leave with tons of knowledge and a huge network of illustrators and connections.

Thank you, doing this MA is on my wishlist. I've only recently graduated from my second bachelor's degree but if I'd go back into education it would be this MA. I have a baby now but maybe part time will be an option. Have you done it/know someone who has? 😊

@@romicajones Congratulations on your baby! I've done it and think it was the best decision ever for me at that point in my life. I am not sure how intensive the part-time course is, but fulltime was hardcore. The reward was the friendships I made and learning from the others on the course. It's not something you can do to that degree on the part-time course. You will need time to travel and to do printmaking. I am not sure how that might work with a baby. I've got three little ones now and finding time to work is a daily struggle. Whatever you decide to do I wish you all the best on your path!

I am currently freelancing in the animation industry for children’s stop motion TV and have a colleague who started in his 40s. I really don’t think it is ever too late. I believe, what really counts much more than age is how much you want something, your passion, your drive. The only downside starting later, in my experience is, that I compare myself and my path too much with people who started much earlier than me, which is really not helpful at all. You start somehow “from zero” and despite your age are “the junior” so to speak, but this is something that I am learning to live with and I really hope you are making small steps to do what you want to do :) It’s nice to know that we are both on this journey. Thank you for your nice comments. They really make KZitem more worthwhile :)
