@@roberthunter4884 You're a lucky man. I met country singer, Lee Ann Womack, in line to see the Statue of Liberty Tour on the boat back in 2002. Now they don't do that anymore. I was lucky, twice-fold. Well, anyhow, I managed to have my Sister take a picture with her & I because there wasn't a large crowd. Most were unaware of her presence. Then as there was more buzz, and people began encroaching too much, her two security men whisked her and her family to the ship. She was so kind, generous of her time, and even complimented my jacket. I think most entertainers are nice and generous. They're human expected to do very crazy things sometimes; most notably, not be themselves.

Anyone who works in broadcasting has worked in stations where there WAS a Herb Tarlek or a Les Nessman. While characatures, these personalities really do exist. It's those relatable characters that made this series so timeless and so enjoyable. Here it is, 40 years or so later, and it still holds up. That's good casting and good writing.

The characters were based on real life station personnel, mostly from WQXI in Atlanta. Yes they are characatures to a degree but there were antics aplenty from the likes of Skinny Bobby Harper (Dr Johnny Fever) Gerald Blum (Art Carlson) and others. Im sure you know that the famous turkey drop episode was based on a real life promotion held in the 60s at WQXI, although greatly exaggerated. In fact, the antics at WQXI inspired me to pursue broadcasting in my younger days...great fun!

WKRP was a Masterpiece. So simple ,so relative and down to earth. Yet it captured hearts and minds all over. Isn't it Great how such a simple sitcom attracts so many viewers ? The Writters of Sitcoms like WKRP are so smart. But the Cast was responsible in those like WKRP, for turning them to pure gold. We need Sitcoms like this today. Most of those I see aren't that good. I think back at some of the best and how big of a Fan-base they attracted. WKRP,The Jeffersons,All in the family,Gilligan's Island, Hill Street Blues,Emergency, MASH, Mama's House,exc.,. All with these things in common.. All were written based on the real lives of folks. All simple down to earth creative writing. All with Great Cast Members.. Somewhere down the line, writers forgot how to relate to real lives. Most just do not capture the hearts and minds of viewers in a way that viewers can relate. A Good Wriiter knows.. If you can do this.. You will be successful...
