This whole car is a blast to drive and a nightmare to own. For a 100 bucks it's great until it breaks which won't take long. After 2 they last around a hour before you're spending money and time time time fixing them. This is by far the most fun car I've owned but it comes at a cost of 5:1 working/running. Good side is that it's cheap. Bad side is that everything on it is the cheapest metal money can buy and it's about as heavy as my aarma granite which is still running and cost the same.

It sure is a blast to drive especially for what it costs. So far I’ve managed to to avoid any serious damage though I’m only using it for speed runs. I’m sure if I were to go off-road with it I’d be breaking parts often. Thanks for stopping by have yourself a great day 👍💯💥

Great video because I have a similar problem with a grub screw that snapped off at some stage, and not from me trying to get it out. So the hole is plugged up with junk and some old grub screw. What size drill bit were you using to clean up the mess before you used a tap drill bit? Thanks

Honestly don’t remember what size drill bit I used. Typically I just try to keep it a bit undersized from the hole to hopefully not wreck the threads when drilling

good job, forgot to mention that those five screws were going to be a bitch!!!! heat was your friend...

Heat worked great for everything but the pinion. That grub screw must’ve had so much glue on it I don’t think any amount of heat was going to break it loose. I drilled it out and was lucky enough that I didn’t damage the threads and was able to run a tap through it.

Good Job Dan, a lot of heat is definitely needed to get those old screws out since wltoys uses crazy amount of glue. 👍🍻

Thanks Dave. A couple seconds with the torch was all it needed to break them loose Thanks for stopping by 👍💯🍻

I watched them assemble the cars at the factory and they dip those screws in a little cup of yellow glue. They actually use loctite (or something that looks like it) on some of the other screws. If you ever get another car, heat the pinion rather than trying to heat the screw. It does a better job of melting the glue and you won’t be as likely to kill the motor bushing. For whatever reason a 1/16” Allen key fits better than the 1.5mm. You have to clear the glue out of the inside of the grub screw first so be sure you can get the Allen key in before you apply the heat. 😃 Looking forward to your install. 💯👍🏻👍🏻

The second Allen key was a 1/16 and it did feel like it was grabbing better. I’ll definitely try to heat up the pinion next time instead of the screw. Thanks for stopping by and for the advice. Have yourself a great week 👍💯

@@Van_City You’re welcome! It’s funny, I was telling my wife today that I should do a motor removal video on this car. I did it last year but it’s in the middle of an upgrade video so probably not a lot of people saw it.

@@Van_City that’s how I knew about the aluminum hex and more grease inside the diff. I’m wondering if their intention on the little line of grease around the diff was to count on centrifugal force to throw the grease on the crown gear. I have another new 124019 still in the box. Maybe I’ll pop the diff cover off to confirm it has the grease ring and put it back together and rev it up with no load for a bit and see what the grease does. 👀😳😎

I didn't have a blowtorch so leaving my soldering iron tip in the slots of the two motor mount screws on the chassis for 5 minutes each was easy enough to melt the glue and take the screws out but tried leaving it there for 10 minutes each on the ones securing the motor to the mount did nothing, need a blowtorch next time.
@Van_City

Yeah sometimes the only way is a blowtorch. It’s unbelievable the amount of glue they use. It’s almost like they want you to strip the screws and be forced into buying new parts.

@@Van_City Wish I had watched this video fully yesterday, I gave up trying to get the pinion off stock motor and found a 25T in my kit, put it on the new motor, put it back in mount and secured it, rolled it back and forth and seemed like a good enough mesh, well it cogged and stripped the spur gear almost instantly, doh! lesson learned.
