I don't think I've ever seen 70s ads look so good! Great transfer!

Vic Roby was the announcer on the Bob Newhart promo. Bill Rippe was the announcer on the Sha Na Na and second In Search Of bumper. But on the opening preview, it sounds like Fred Collins was the announcer.

@@fromthesidelines - This was not the only infamous movie where she would announce the bumpers. On May 15, 1981, she would do likewise on "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island."

I remember most of these commercials. I don't remember though burger king having a steak sandwich. It must have not been there long. 17:05

On the "NBC News Update" from Washington, who would have been that announcer - Phil Gaines, perhaps?

So much nostalgia. The news break about Israel sadly sounds like todays headlines. The Monte Carlo ad brings back good memories. My stepfather bought two, a blue one in 1981 and a brown one in 1983. They pased the 83 one down to me. It ran over 100K miles. The last commercial is horrifying though 😮

When he became NBC's president, Fred Silverman was desperate to generate "heat" in his initial programming to make viewers *want* to watch. This TV movie was one of those gambits. That the band was sorry they were ever involved in making it (as Carrie Fisher was, appearing in "The Star Wars Holiday Special") was a sure sign this was an embarrassment for all--- except Silverman. And there were more embarrassments to come..........

Silverman didn't realize that until *AFTER* he signed them to NBC. He tried to make the best of a bad situation.......and it WAS pretty bad, as mediocre ratings forced them off the air after a little over a month.

It's really amazing how folks had no problem in that they had diarrhea on national TV. I was 12 1978 and remember it well. 😂
