Wolfenstein 3D is a 1992 first person shooter game released on DOS. This game is the game that followed up the also iconic first person shooter Doom (1993). Wolfenstein 3D was designed by John Romero (the godfather of Doom) and developed by id software, John Romero took inspiration the 1981 adventure game Castle Wolfenstein which was released on the Apple 2 computer and was later ported to MS-DOS and the Commodore 64. The difference between Wolfenstein 3D and Castle Wolfenstein is Wolfenstein 3D is an action packed shooter where you run in guns blazing slaughtering nazi’s, while Castle Wolfenstein is more of a stealth like game such as the Metal Gear Solid series.
