I love that instead of throwing Hendrix in there for the sake of having a famous person in their game, they make a version of him in a world where Jimi Hendrix never existed. J did. Hes just a guy who doesnt like war, fiddles with his guitar, and goes by his initial. Could be anyone. But that line "at that moment i was at the feet of a god" is what gives you a glimpse that he is very much still the Hendrix we all know. He just never got to own it until the moment of his death and god damn did he own it
@StormsparkPegasus

Yep, it's an alternate history. J is who Jimi Hendrix would have been, if the Germans had won WW2 (making a musical career for him impossible since the real Hendrix would've never agreed to "Nazify" his music the way the Beatles did in the Wolfenstein timeline - hint, run "Die Käfer" through Google translate). The real Hendrix was in the army during the time New Order takes place. The alternate version of him joined the resistance instead of the army and found his way to Europe. But it's definitely him.

@@TheAllSeeingEye2468 Damn right he is. Every vile deed the Nazis did was anything but their original idea. The Nazis just copycatted American racist laws and genocide methods. Americas racism and genocide is by all wordy senses FAR WORSE: The Nazi Holocaust killed only 12 million, but "good ole Uncle Sam" offed between 75 million-112 million natives (and that's not counting blacks). The most horrific part is the amount of average joes ecstatically participating in said genocide like a gaggle of teens at the arcade. It was like the real life proto "Purge." Only it wasn't sanctioned by a Nazi council, but "by the people, for the people," while by contrast a good number of Germans privy to the Holocaust soaked their pillows with tears everytime they "followed orders." Ghostapo holding them and their families at proverbial gunpoint and all that. Thinking of all the sick bastards who brutalized Indian women and children, makes me compare their motives to modern day young people obsessed with social media fame, and realize much of the bastards like the ones at Sand Creek and George Custer wanted fame and recognition at any cost to their basic human decency. That's American Culture at it's rotten onion core, courtesy of the first permanent settlers made of slimey corporate land grabbers and deranged witch hunting, bible black tyrants wearing masks of righteousness. As much as I love good games and stories that explore alternate history scenarios, I find Wolfenstein unrealistic, not just in terms of the logistics the Nazis needed to conquer earth, but how long the German people would roll with Hitler's bull****. Think of Operation Valkyrie and the White Rose student resistance. Evidence that German culture expressed valor and virtue from centuries of accumulated wisdom in contrast to America's culture of greed and narcissism which is toxic and immature, and never getting better anytime soon. Hell America still prides itself on dicking over minorities and even handicapped family members. Not to mention Uncle SAm's genocide body count is still rising with every act of overseas military impunity and "intervention." I feel bad for German people not wearing Swatstikas when I see them in pop cultural mediums or WW2 related films , cause I see America hypocritically projecting its genocidal nature onto Germany. American schools also gloss over, downplay or outright lie or deny their country's own Holocaust. Meanwhile Germany is blunt and honest about its dark past. After exposure to the strategy game Iron Harvest and it's painting source material, I wish Germany won WW1 so a lot of things would turn out ok. Hell 100,000 German Jews fought for Germany in WW1. I'm ditching America for a better country at first oppurtunity as should everyone with a functioning moral compass like Einstein and other German smart dudes did when the Nazis muscled in. So when America's sick, parasitic culture hits its own self-destruct button, I'll laugh at Uncle SAm and mock him in well practiced German lines.

And I think that is one of the unspoken themes of the New Order, one that was subtly implied by Deathhead, that in the one the more Blazcko and the Resistence try to defeat the Nazis, the more they become like them. Lotta white kids in these comments who aren't aware of the real Jimi's intent with his famous rendition of the anthem. *It was a protest.* He heavily distorted the melody to symbolize how the USA had become corrupted by capitalist imperialism abroad and jingoism at home. Which, of course, make's "J's" playing of the anthem here in this story's context ironic.

Actually...it's still a protest against the establishment (for a very different reason, but still a protest), so it still works. Because as bad as the real US was at the time the real Hendrix did that, the Nazis in the Wolfenstein timeline were FAR worse. So...still a protest, but for a far different reason. The US the real Hendrix was protesting no longer existed in New Order. J acts the exact same way the real Jimi Hendrix would in that situation.

ah yes, the 'could you do that in cuba????' whataboutism. But we aren't talking about Cuba or the "URSS", we're talking about america. The most murderous terrorist state in all of human history. And that's what hendrix was talking about. You think Soviet dissenters cared about american crimes? Hell no. They cared about the crimes of the Soviet Union. Why should they care about the crimes of a country they're not even a citizen of? Why does the logic not work the other way around? Stalin sure would have loved for people who didn't like his country to just get out instead of trying to fix it. Free speech is even worse in Russia now (source, family being russian).

CognizantCheddar, if your interpretation is correct (and I am not saying it is, since it doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons), why would he be protesting "capitalistic imperialism?" With the exception of Central America and the Philippines (which we were going to let go of anyways), America was not really thought of as an imperialistic nation by anyone except commies. It would make a lot more sense for him to be protesting America's treatment of different races. With that said, it makes no sense for him to willingly die at the hands of the powerful world ruling Nazis just so he could "protest" a nation that has been dead for years at this point in the story, and one that is not only long dead, but one that was absolute Heaven towards minorities in comparison to the new world order everyone is under now.

Jimi went on an interview later and said he played it that way as more of a protest for having to play it his entire life and not wanting to play it.

Even when the government was different, when the open faced Nazis replaced the Nazis wearing masks he still played his epic version of the anthem and still held the same meaning.

i like how in the beginning J compared the americans to the nazis but through him meeting B.J he got a different view of america showing that they all weren’t like that and a lot had a different view and through the game he becomes more patriotic to the point he gives his life for B.J knowing he will get the job done and goes out playing the national anthem just my view on it

BJ’s violent reaction to J calling him a fascist makes a lot more sense in retrospect after the new colossus depicts BJ’s childhood, in which he himself is the victim of racist violence at the hand of his own father, both for being half-jewish and for dating a black girl.

Few things, he went out on his own damn accord, he went out inspiring those around him and made sure that the entire city knew his music, well at least that section. He went out showing that as Americans we will never bow to the Nazi oppressors, and if that is not the most MURICA thing to do playing the National Anthem as a weapon then I don't know what is.

Will White Strats are probably a bit hard to come by in this game’s world. iirc, the Nazis (in the game) outlawed the manufacture of electric guitars, and destroyed any they could find. They weren’t “German” enough.
