The thing about Civil War is that Thing and Wolverine are the only ones actually doing the smart thing and realizing that there's a fight that the heroes _should_ be fighting instead of each other and are really the only ones to make it out as the better people. Ben just straight-up leaves and Logan goes after the ones actually responsible.

Understandable. But now producers and studios are realizing that today's landscape of entertainment allows concepts to be in a series format rather than trying to cram everything possible into a 90-120 screentime movie. Hell, some MCU episodes run either 60-75 minutes, depending on the episode/chapter. And as far as crossovers, they can look to Star Trek and Star Wars for pretty much re-writing the book on crossovers and keeping it canon enough to appease the terminally-online die-hards.

@@wintertrooper7918I wonder if that's what Nitro meant by "you're messing with the big leagues now girl". He says this to Namorita right before blowing up. It always struck me as a weird line since nitro isn't exactly an A-lister himself. Maybe he was actually referring to the people backing him.

@TrashPanda90914 yeah he was referring to damage control and Walter Declun who had been supplying him with MGH (contrary to the short it doesn't require mutant ability nor does it grant mutant ability but it was created for mutants) prior to that he was only powerful enough to kill everyone in a small one bedroom apartment size area of himself a far cry from what he displayed at Stamford

It also led to my favorite moment in all of comics, as who orchestrated all of this? Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic. He had calculated that the world would end umless he set off something now to release some tension. So he arranged a civil war. It's why i consider Reed maybe the scariest guy in all of Marvel: he will arrange the murder of an entire preschool and set off a hero war because he knows that he's saving the world, you're just not smart enough to understand how he came to that conclusion. No one is. It's like having Thanos as one of your core heros.

@@frankspick7544 In my favorite moment in comics ever, Reed then has a moment of doubt, so he tricks the Mad Thinker into breaking into the Baxter Building. Once Thinker is there, Reed walks him to his lab, where an entire room is covered in calculations showing that it was either murder the kids and start a civil war, or the world ends, and begs Thinker to check his math, as no one else is smart enough to understand it. Thinker looks it over for a couple minutes and says: "I quit, and I give up the title of Mad Thinker. Our rivalry is over; you are, indisputably, smarter than me. I can't check your math. No one can. And I cannot fathom how hideously alone that leaves you."

@@wintertrooper7918 That is the RR moment that I remember. I remember thinking of it in a meta context as Marvel basically saying "hey, I know this all makes no sense to you guys but the smartest guy in the universe did some crazy math and said this is how it had to be." What was funniest to me was how the shot never showed the math, just a very constrained shot of the Thinker. The scene wasn't a "hey this guy was behind the whole thing" and more a "you see, this is justified." And I think it was ultimately in response to RR having everyone sent to Marvel's version of the Phantom Zone that I can't remember its name of at the moment.

@felixfeliciano7011

@@connorblake7487 It is a retcon in that it changes the point of the story and every consequence behind it. It went from a very serious question: what do we do when superheroes (and by extension supervillains) get out of hand? To no question at all but: we need to find out who did this and punish them. Nothing learned, nothing gained. With the retcon it forces everything back to the status quo, because no one did anything wrong, it was just a single rogue element. Once they bring them to justice then everything will be fine, no need to think about any deep questions or consequences. It is narrative finger pointing, done because the story wrote itself into a corner. After all, if these heroes are what you sell to make money, is it a good idea to permanently alienate half your audience or more for countless issues just because they were on one side or another of the argument? Comics always do this - reset to status quo. That is all this was. Bait-and-switch, reset, retcon. Call it whatever you want but it wasn't what they set out to do in the first place.

If I figured out that Marvel’s Civil War was an inside job, they would called me a conspiracy theorist and laughed at me for misinformation. _Little did they knew that it all started with a mutant growth hormone and the rest is history._
