As someone who use to run track, I know about getting off that block, (now I'm not sure if her coach has told her (or has even realized it)), but with Sha'Carri Richardson, what's keep her from coming off the block faster, are her "fingernails." As a sprinter, you have to be able to pull your hands off the ground quickly, and having shorter nails helps this "tremendously" (anyone who's a sprinter will tell you this). Not sure if anyone on her team, is going to tell her before the Olympics in Tokyo begins, but if she shortens her nails, A LOT, she would actually have a chance of beating Flo-Jo's 100m time of 10.49.
@christopherjacksoncharles1257
3 жыл бұрын
Her fingernails? now I understand your theory ..The 'push-off from your fingers transferable the last point of your body contact with the blocks....however, how does your observation explain the fact that over the last 32 years America's most successful sprinters in the 100m at the Olympic game were long-fingernails sprinters Flo-Jo and Gail Devers.
@poeticnation6251
3 жыл бұрын
@@christopherjacksoncharles1257 Flo-Jo and Gail Devers were built differently (Both of those women had A LOT more muscle on their body than Ms. Richardson, which means a lot more power to make up from not having "perfect starts" - Check out their races, how they would always "excel" from the pack in the straightaway (and around the turns in the 200m), "not" off the block (They were average starters - Not bad, but average. Their strength was in the straightaway, like Ms. Richardson). And a point you missed - When Gail Devers wore very long nails, she wouldn't put her fingers pressed down, on the starting line - "She would use her knuckles instead" (there's plenty of videos on KZitem of Gail Devers putting her knuckles down on the starting line, and having her fingers and nailed tucked close to her hands, to prove my point). Another point - Flo Jo's nails were NO WHERE NEAR the length of Ms. Richardson's (in fact they're about half the size - There are plenty of videos of Flo Jo on KZitem for you to compare the two).
@jcyberj
3 жыл бұрын
Flo Jo's nails were longer. I as a former sprinter, cannot believe in "nail drag" slowing Miss Richardson down. Also, note that the great sprinter/hurdler, Gail Devers had long nails, too.
@poeticnation6251
3 жыл бұрын
@@jcyberj Flo Jo nails were "nowhere near" as long as Ms. Richardson's (there's plenty of videos on KZitem that show the clear difference), and when Gail Devers wore her nails really long, she would tuck her fingers in her hands, and put her middle knuckles on the ground, as to not have to worry about her nails dragging, thus proving my point (there's many videos on KZitem, of Gail Devers running in the Olympics, that clearly show her doing this).

Personality clashes with observers and a lack of confidence among competitors does not mean too much for a real champion. The former increases marketability and the latter "psyches" competition. Many responses I see here are naive and the usual jealousy and pettiness from those who are envious. Miss Richardson beat the odds of the hand that life dealt her and understands that she is more than a "jock." May her gifts prevail through time as payment for her hard work and introspection. More of us should do the same! Look out Dina and others because "we" are a comin'. And to those who speak very negatively of Americans of color, I say "forgivi we for dee bad tings we da do."
