When educators use a Conceptual PlayWorld to introduce STEM problems, and industry partners are part of the co-teaching process, girls see women in STEM and over time become oriented to STEM. Through this, educators and industry partners are changing the story for girls in STEM as something for them.
In this video we showcase girls in STEM - one of a set of core findings from the PlayLab at Monash University. In the example shown, the educators have designed with industry and Monash University staff a Conceptual PlayWorld of the Shoemaker and the Elves. The children build their own shoe factory to help the elves fill the orders. This Conceptual PlayWorld specifically foregrounds the important role we all have in creating the right conditions for equity of access to STEM.
