The collection of the museum of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography in Novosibirsk presents women's costumes of different ethnocultural subgroups of Russians in Siberia. In women's clothing, traditional features and details unique to the ethnic group were preserved much longer than in men's clothing. Thus, Сhaldon women, living in families of immigrants from the Don river, wore a set of skirts and jackets instead of sundresses. In the culture of the Kerzhak Old Believers, prayer sundresses have been preserved to this day. Local groups of Old Believers had their own unique clothing complexes: the “Poles” of Altai and the Semeyskie of Transbaikalia. They also preserved the complex headdress of married women, completely covering their hair, longer than others.
Narrated by Elena Fedorovna Fursova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk. The video was prepared as part of the project “Important Things: Traditions and Life of Russian Migrants in Siberia,” implemented with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives in 2023-2024.
