I mean, he's a shape changing, telepathic detective. He's a one person conspiracy. If J'onn truly went rogue, there's nothing they could do to stop him. By the time Bats is giving a monologue about how he's figured it all out Alfred would turn into j'onn and swat him like a bug.

If you're looking for more good Wonder Woman books, I'd recommend checking out "The Legend of Wonder Woman" It's (one of) my favorite origin stories for Diana. I love how they mash a lot of golden, silver and modern age Wonder Woman lore together and REALLY make her feel like she's apart of the DC Universe more than any origin story of Wonder Woman's I've read. It's a lot of fun, with a rip-roaring good time of a climax..! That's the good news :/ The bad news is that, well... They set up a sequel that DC will NEEEEEVER do, and the story behind that sad fact is kind of a funny one (Not funny 'ha ha', though) that you could talk about in addition to a really neat Wonder Woman story! Another recommendation I'd make is one of my favorite stand-alone Wonder Woman stories that I don't think enough people talk about, called "Wonder Woman: The True Amazon". Engrossing and Heartbreaking. You're awesome Comic Pop!! I love this show, thank you so much for making it, and all the other amazing content you guys provide, too!

Love this book so much! The story is so much fun and the art just brings it to life. So beautiful. I also just love the idea of Wonder Woman every now and then using the lasso on herself to keep herself true. Such an awesome concept. Other Wonder Woman comics I'd recommend, "The Hiketeia" by Greg Rucka and "The Legend of Wonder Woman" by Renae de Liz. The latter of which is a fun retelling of Wonder Woman's origin set during WW2 with fun DC references plus the love to Golden Age Wonder Woman. Also, honorable mention to Wonder Woman: The True Amazon by Jill Thompson. A pure Themyscira stor.y.

I've watched this over twice trying to get a feel on why I didn't like this story. It comes down to removal of choice. Diana didn't just save her family, she denied them their free will. That kind of betrayal goes deep, parallel to her endangering the lives of others to save the lives of others. One miscalculation and her friends would've been dead and that would've been on Kal's conscience FOREVER. This is a good TRAGEDY, but it also feels like a betrayal of her character in a way. I don't think she would have denied her sisters on Themyscira an honorable death. Just my two cents. EDIT: Revisiting this story, Drakul totally won. The whole point was that the League died right? Mission success, complete with the whole 'finnicky prophecy' trope in tact and executed well. Hm. I like that but I don't like the lengths they went to make Diana do something she'd NEVER let the other leaguers do and get away with it.
@OfficialKingAries
2 жыл бұрын
true but that's where dianas upbringing comes in being usually sometimes the only female league member who's used consistently diana imo always subconsciously sees them as weaker than herself not physically always but mentally diana is one of few league members nd honestly just heroes in general whos willing to do what needs to be done
@shauntempley9757
Жыл бұрын
Remember what she said when Drakul bathed Wonder Woman in fire breath. They would have died from the fires, since they seek out treachery. All of the Leaguers have done those things at some point, in separate stories, because villains made them do those actions. Hush did it with Batman. Like with him beating Joker in that story when he was innocent. An act that even Gordon threatened to kill him for. That act of treachery meant Drakul's fires would have incinerated him on the spot. Arthur killing Black Manta's father is another moment that would kill him. Superman when he fought the Authority. His manipulation would count as a moment that Drakul would kill him.

Hard disagree. It's not a removal of choice to save someone whom you love when they're about to get hit by a car, nor is what Diana did here.

Point of order regarding comments at the end: There definitely are dragons in Greek myth. The word comes from the Greek word "drakon," which was used to describe Ladon, a serpentine being guarding the Garden of the Hesperides (he shows up in the myths of Hercules and of Jason, wrapped around a tree and being a serpent with dozens of heads). Python was often depicted as draconic, and is closely associated with this story, as he lived on Mt. Parnassus and was killed by Apollo, whose oracle lived at Delphi. He was an earth-serpent, sometimes depicted as female, but always a force of death and decay vanquished by Apollo. The hydra may be the source of the toxic/dangerous breath part of the dragon myth. Though if I remember correctly its breath was supposed to be more of a corrupting mi- oh wait. Though the "true name" thing is even older. That kind of thing shows up in pre-Greek Egyptian myth (and the Greeks were DEFINITELY aware of the myths of Isis and Ra, considering they adopted the worship of Isis and built temples to her well into the Roman period; Pompeii's ruins feature a recently-renovated temple ot Isis which was in better shape than several "local" gods' temples after a recent earthquake). Classical Judaism has several instances of the importance of true naming (Jacob wrestling with the angel to discover its name, and having his own name changed, the refusal to utter the name of YHWH, even among modern Jews, etc.). A more mundane example closer to home for Diana happens in the _Odyssey_ when Odysseus refuses to give his name to the cyclops Polyphemus ("I am no man." "No man is hurting me," that whole thing), but at the very end, in his arrogance, as he's sailing away, he tells him "You were outsmarted by Odysseus, son of Laertes!" and since Polyphemus isn't dead, he complains to his dad, Poseidon, about this Odysseus asshole who blinded him. Needless to say, Poseidon does some stuff to Odysseus.

God, I just love the idea of dragon fire not just burning you as a pure chemical reaction, but the metaphysical of it makes the impurity within you burn you from the inside out. But I'd also love a sort of sequel or something, a different dragon that learned to keep to itself or something, and having a character like Harley Quinn learn the lore and force feed it My Little Pony and Ethics textbooks (she could even mention how she never got much use out of those, but they might help the dragon). Basically speedrun the dragon back to being decent as an alternative way to take it down. Maybe even have Harley's somewhat cloud cuckoolander nature be extra effective because it operates on myth-type thinking, all free association and Monkey Island logic. Countering the dragon's magic with just a pithy "Well if you get to make up rules, SO DO I!" and, like... the magic is just "She does have a point, you know."

I actually really liked Batmans characterization in this. I interpreted the agent orange thing as a bluff; i highly doubt Batman always carries a pellet of that stuff around and he didnt know about the nymph until right then. As for his dialogue against WW during their fight, i again saw it as Batman hitting on what he knew she was already struggling with; belief in the prophecy and if she was really doing the right thing. It was meant to confuse her and put her off her game, since he had no actual chance of beating her if she hit him. Just another part of this excellent book that i liked
