My brother and I met Paul in 86 I believe. He was starting his feud with hogan and had huge heat. We were in the Toronto Airport and I was a fan of the heels (never liked hogan ) and I was about 11-12 at the time. My brother was about 7 and a fan of hogan . Orndoroff was standing talking with a guy when I approached him with a copy of PWI and asked him to sign it. To my surprise he said no son I’m busy. I wasn’t smart to the business so I turned and started to walk away when my dad said to him something like really nice buddy… He looked back at me and said wait a minute. He looked around and then motioned for me to come over. He knelt down put his arm around me and said quietly sorry kid people aren’t supposed to like me you should be cheering for Hogan? I said no way but my brother does - he called my brother over and signed our magazines and hugged us both . I said thank u and he looked at my father and us boys and said don’t tell anyone and they walked away . I didn’t know at the time but I realized later on that he broke kayfabe for a couple kids during his most hated time . I’ll always remember his kindness at a time when many heels wouldn’t do that. Thanks again Paul - you are truly Mr. Wonderful. Keep fighting this terrible disease! Your fans are behind u still 👍🏻

What a Wonderful man....when he talked about Roddy....I just wanted to wrap my arms around him to comfort his obvious sorrow....made me tear up.... he's oldschool in all aspects....and I just love that about him....he truly is Wonderful......to see a softer side of him, so vulnerable, real....you just don't see men like him anymore.....his ring name fit him to a tee.....Mr. Wonderful.....Paul, thank you for making the 80's so great for a kid like me....and thank you for showing us this side of you, you are a great man, and one helluva human being......and to the interviewer, great job, and thank you...

I met Roddy Piper. He was a one of a kind. There will never be another sports entertainer like him. He was a very compassionate man. I met him and gave him a birthday card. In exchange, he shook my hand, pulled me into his chest and gave me a big hug, plus an autographed photo. I thought I was in a match with him. The man never backed down from what he believed in. Piper was aware of how this system works.

A real stand up guy, hard to believe that I am now 60 .Seems like yesterday, that day about 27 years ago Paul, Kevin Von Erich, and,Nikata Koloff were appearing at the local Grandpa Pigeons story ,I stopped in, and ,they were all seated, near the back of the store. I had, always been a wrestling fan but, it took a little nerve I walked straight up to Paul and I said. Can I please have an autograph? He asked what my name was,I replied Joe, He quickly wrote Best of luck Joe MR1 Derfull Paul Orndorf, Looked for that autograph for years, to no avail,, Thanks Paul you really had class!

I wonder if it was because of Orndorff's height. During his prime years, he looked like he was about 5 foot 10. During that era, Vince believed that his stars needed to be tall and didn't see potential/money in short guys. I remember Jim Ross recounted a story in his book about Vince initially being really reluctant to sign guys like Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit because of their height. It wasn't until Eddie, Chris, and other smaller wrestlers began to show him that short guys could still be dynamic wrestlers that he began to change his view. Orndorff was fantastic during the 1980s and would have been a great heel champion.

Randy Melton, sounds like Paul Orndorff, from an early age on, learned from the school of hard knocks. Therefore, whatever Paul needed to do to succeed in wrestling, he did, including playing the part of an obnoxious, narcisstic, roid-raged nemesis of Hulk Hogan. Now, I understand the psychology part of professional wrestling, better: Soap-opera-like controversy fills arena seats more than non-contoversy; wrestlers like Paul Orndorff were valuable to the wrestling associations they worked for in terms of larger revenue. Such wrestlers understood that they would get larger paychecks, when they helped build ticket sales.

My favorite wrestler as a child. Went to a match in Philly with Hulk Hogan Vs. Kamala. At the end of the match Kimchi (Kamala's manager) goes in the ring, masked as usual. Grabs Hulk Hogan and piledrives him. This wasn't a normal piledriver, this was a Paul Orndorff piledriver. Didn't even have to take off his mask, everyone knew who he was. One of the best of all time. Paul was a top 5 heel of the 80s. That injury was a big deal. Had he taken a year off and worked with doctors; he might have been able to go on another big run. Paul could have rehashed and healed while Hogan got ready for the Giant in WM3. He could have came back while Hogan as doing the matches vs Bundy w/The Brain handicap matches. And him and Hogan could have tag teamed. They could have taken on Andre and a partner. And that would hel0 hide Andre being so hurt. Hard to walk away from the money I know. But Orndorff healing up could have changed everything, including him going to WCW!

RIP Mr Wonderful... He was a true LEGEND! old school, tough as nails & plainly wonderful, he truly lived up to his moniker... His feuds with Piper as a face and then with Hogan as a heel was what hooked me back when I was a child, he really IS part of my childhood memories... I remember play wrestling with my friends and beating each other up, I'd always want to be Mr Wonderful, even did his version of the hand to the ear to the crowd gimmick... I respect the man so much that I'll ignore that he probably was a Trumper, I never heard it ... Rest is Awesomeness Mr Wonderful

Will always have special memories of Mr Wonderful... I became a wrestling fan about '84/85 and Orndorff was top of the heap then! The absolute top!

they should have had Hogan drop the belt to Paul at WM3 or WM4 -- Paul deserved a run -- hulkamania had just about run its course -- it was time for a change -- Paul would have been a better champion the Warrior

He's a good man. I used to watch him back in the 80's wrestle. I'm glad he can pass on his trade to the younger wrestlers and live on. Now, Was it a bicep's tear he had on the one arm? I remember the times watching him when both arms were similar then when he appeared again in WCW the one arm started looking smaller. I figured an injury.

I've always liked Paul Orndorff, when he was young, had boatloads of potential. Unlike wrestlers of today, he drove to most of his matches, not flew in a jet until the end of his career. The ladies likely loved Paul wherever he traveled.

I got to meet the man a few times. Definitely a gentleman and so was immersed in the old school rasslin, when it was still kayfabe. Times have changed, but he was such a pleasure to be around. Lots of wrestling knowledge in his head he loves to share. Still seems like a tough guy and would have no problem kicking ass now!!

Another excellent video, thank you for this! Orndorff was so great, his WWF run against Hogan was one of the best in modern history IMO, just amazing heel work. He looked absolutely vicious in the ring, was a good promo & had a great grasp on psychology. Shame that Vince never gave him even a short run with a title belt. One of my favorite squash matches ever is Orndorff vs jobber Rudy Diamond from WWF TV, in 84 or 85. Rudy takes a Paula shirt from a fan, and gets absolutely destroyed! Thanks again for sharing this, always enjoy your videos, looking forward to your future postings!

As a long-time fan of the golden era of wrestling, I agree with everything you just said. Orndorff was a beast. He deserved a title belt for sure. And from this girl's female perspective, as a teen at the time discovering boys, I couldn't stop staring at his butt. LOL! Glad to see he's still rockin' and rollin'!

I remember that! Orndoff chases Diamond around the ring....Mr #1derful catches him...and obliterates him with 2 pile drivers. Paul Orndoff's pile driver was the gold standard; all others were sub-par by comparison.

Who gives a video like this a thumbs down? It’s fantastic. Amazing. What I’d give to sit and chat to Paul. Fantastic. I love the story of early Paul finding the gym, college football etc. What a monster, what a classy individual. Kudos to the maker of the video. You’ve done a great job. I’ve subscribed. Sending love from England.
