I'm a bed bound disabled 48 yr old woman who found you by accident. Now I'm getting into whittling because of you! I'm just afraid I don't have the strength to actually whittle. I made your Christmas pickle. But I can't seem to get deep cuts. I am getting some flexcut knives for xmas so I hope it helps me. Please keep these videos coming, they are therapy for me. So soothing and your work is amazing. Thanks for the inspiration!! I hope to get even half as good as you!

I'm not as young as I used to be and find that I put my work in vise on my carving bench and use a wood mallet and chisels I can get so much done with less pain, if you had a lap table and a small vise attached it would make it so much easier for the deeper cuts and less fear of hurting yourself when you cannot hold your work tightly in your hand. Keep the faith and keep up with the carving.

I'm a 35 yr old man of average build and I can't do cuts like Doug either. He's a carpenter by trade (I think) and has hand strength that I'll never match hahaha. Also, he uses extremely sharp, thin blades. I just take more shallow cuts and get there eventually :)

This is very well done, Doug. You gave a thorough but simple explanation of something that confused most of us when we started carving. Your most important quote-- "Every set will include tools you will never use." I always encourage people to buy individual tooles as they need them for their projects. Grow your tools as you grow your skills and experience. Thanks!

Always wondered what your colour scheme represented. I also use colours because I don't have room in my tiny workshop to spread them out. I have a knife block style rack for my 90+ chisels and, I as I'm into electronics, my scheme is the same as resistor colour codes so I don't have to think what colour is what as it's already in my head! (ha ha). All the best with your carving adventure Mr D. and hello from a wet and windy UK.

Great thinking about having a color code system, To bad the tool people didn't do it permanently on their brand, and it would be better if all companies could copy the same color and make a standard code. Life can be easily done. Some might inlay a piece of color plastic for permanent marker Thanks
