How does a barbecue built into a steel drum help to save on heating in winter time? The enormous amount of carbon monoxide has to be vented to somewhere.

Masonry for stoves/ovens doesn't tend to hold up well. We built a simple grill in our back yard and the expansion and contraction of the heat had it falling apart in just two years. Concrete is not much better.. These things look nice in the beginning, but don't last. You're better off BUYING an IRON wood store: What is your time worth? How much are you going to spend on materials? Only to have it crumble after a few uses? Don't waste your time and money: Think about building and buying things that will last the rest of your life: Concrete is not meant for stoves, nor is basic masonry. Yes: there are brick ovens, but those bricks and the masonry that binds them are special made.
