Very nice indeed.

Very nice Gary! The grain in that bowl is so fine. It looks amazing. I do love the shape and it certainly does remind me of a drift boat. I used to shoot a fishing show “Sports Fishing BC” and at times spent many hours in a drift boat. My old pear tree in the back yard is shaking a little nervously as I contemplate that fine grained wood. 😮 Thanks for the video. Cheers, Rick

Thank you very much Rick. Pear is an amazing wood and it turns so nice. I have a Lavro drift boat and used to practically live in it. Lately not nearly enough. Cold weather does not work so good for me now. So the fall salmon on the Clackamas is about all I do now. The other times of year there are way too many jet sleds. But in the fall the water is so low they can not run it. Perfect for a drift boat. We had a somewhat local show here called Fishing the West. Sports store owner Larry Scheoenborn produced it. For some reason I have the same problem with that material. So now I use some foam from an old couch that I recycled and it doesn't mark my finish. It works great because it forms to the inside of the piece and I have learned that you can also control the pressure of the tailstock. I've even used it to turn off a larger tenon just to see if I could do it. Happy turning my friend ☺️

Gary, your patience and talent shine through, especially with the uneven “wings. Fruitwood is always a pretty wood. Beautiful bowl 👍

Thank you Skip. For sure fruit wood is some of the nicest but some of it really likes to crack. Pear has been pretty nice to me though. Take care, Gary

A beautiful bowl! I love the colour of the wood, the shape you've given it, and I really love the live edge you've left on it! It reminds me of one of those old-fashioned fancy bathtubs!

Thank you Pauline. It was a perfect piece of Pear for sure. I think the old fashion bathtub is winning . I think I was feeling like it was time to get our drift boat out. Thanks for watching. Gary

Another beautiful piece. Again your skill and imagination show through your projects. You mentioned the number of tools you have at your disposal. It would be interesting to have you show how you store your tools while you are turning and maybe when you are not turning. I have a problem storing my tools yet have them close at hand when I need them.

Thank you Doug. Over the years I have a real collection of turning tools. Some I really do not use very much. They are the ones I had at work for turning wood patterns. They are pretty bulky but I have used one of them for very out of round pieces. I am guessing I have at least 30 turning tools. Most are stored behind me where they are easy to reach and then a few special ones at the end of my lathe. Next time I have a shorter video I will show where and how I have them stored. Plus my grinder is right behind me as well. Thanks for asking and I will fit something in. Gary

Hello Gary. The size and shape are good. As always, the finish is perfect. My preference is usually, for simitry. On these live edge projects, I feel like my mind is changing. In other words...mind blown. This vessel is awesome. Well done sir. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world.

Thank you very much for your kind words Shaun. I spent most of my working life making sure the left side looked like the right side when it needed to be. And in a lot of cases it looks great in a wood turning. But when a piece grows like this one did I try not to change it much. Thanks for watching, Gary

Wow Gary, just wow. Another amazing beautiful piece, and as always, you make it look so easy. Even uneven wings are no match for you. I really like how it turned out, and think it's about perfect the way it is. A great lesson in how to make fine art. Thank you!

Thank you Mark I appreciate your kind words. When I picked the piece up and looked at it I loved the odd shape it had and did what I could to keep it. Just happen to be how I cut the log in half that left it like this. Now to find the other half...under my shed for sure. Take care, Gary

Every time I watch your project. I'm amazed at the creative design. Once again, very good!! I don't think you really needed to change it in anyway! The creative spark that you had was pretty much spot on....

Thank you Dave. I have not turned any peach but I can see how it might look similar. A lot of the fruit wood seems to. Thanks for watching, Gary

@@ThePapa1947 Lived for 5 years on the Bogachiel River and greeting drifts as they went by was a great part of living at the water’s edge. Though that is where I really learned the meaning of “Come hell or high water”. Watching whole trees race by from our safe raised river bank was quite an experience!
