Other than the Gothic boxwood prayer bead skull this is the best wooden skull I’ve seen, I love that polish you put on it. And those renaissance miniatures were made by aliens if you ask me, so we humble earthlings shouldn’t necessarily use them to measure our success. With hard woods there is a trade off, roughing out is difficult but then you are able to add more detail and use the luster to your advantage to draw the eye from the rougher low spots, and your tools don’t have to be as finicky with keenness and bevel angles to not tear the grain or leave it fuzzy.
