Great video, Mike. Have you ever seen or tried the pin stripe roller?. I had one ...a little bottle 2 Oz or so bottle with a valve and little brass roller with sort of gear ribs cut into it. It had an adjustable guide to run along a straight edge and the paint would wick onto the roller. I did 19' Graevette, and my 22' Shepherd with it. Back then (mid 70's), the marina operator who was advising me just told me that was how it was done. No masking. Worked fine. He had me strip, coarse sand, caulk, medium sand, final sand, varnish, and finally paint the seams. There was no internet then, so I didn't know any other way. :) I think I got the roller bottle thingy from the same paint store that sold the Petit Easy-Poxy High Build Varnish I was directed to use.

I have one but can't seem to work it as well as just tape and a brush.

Silver Arrows are very heavy, underpowered, over-rated and overpriced. Wouldn't own one.

Thanks for all the info, can you tell me what stain you used on the how to paint deck stripes video. I have a 54 CC U22.

That would have been the red mahogany color from Wood Kote, you can find it on my website here www.mgstudioworks.com/

Hi Mike. Great video on pinstriping. I am restoring a 1959 Plycraft boat made in Nova Scotia. I want to add pinstriping to the boat. The deck is made out of 1/4" plywood and has no groves for pinstriping. I thought I would add groves with a router. Should I use a square tip bit or a rounded blade and what width and depth would you suggest. The boat is only 12' long and 4' wide. Thanks, any help would be great. Russ

I would use a round bit and only go down as wide as you want the seam. Most time seams on Chris Crafts are a bit under 1/8th.

Mike, Great video. For a semi novice they provide good ideas. I'm ready to start this process on my Chris-Craft restoration. How long do you cure the varnish before you install the tape? I don't want to mess up all the hard work done so far.

Hey Mike, enjoying your channel. How many coats of varnish do you put on before painting stripes? And do you varnish after stripes? Thanks
@MikeGreenStudioWorks

On most boats if its bare wood we put 18 coats. If its a refreash we then do about 5. I do not varnish over the strips because it turns them yellow.

Hi there Mike. Thanks for posting videos. I have just started the restoration of a 1948 20 Custom Runabout I brought from California to Norway. The topside, bottom and transom was replaced, probably 10-15 years ago. They did not quite finish the woodwork. There were absolutely no interior in the boat. I understand that the interior on these was a bit complex with leather combined with vinyl. That I can probably get sorted with some help from Mr. Mayeaux (who actually recommended me to contact you) but what is more of a challenge is how to build the seat frames etc. Not much info out there and this may be a shot in the dark. Any suggestions? After this is done I have a 22 ft Chris Craft Custom Sedan from 1954 to fully restore and then onto my jewel in the collection, a 1954 53 ft Chris Craft Conqueror that needs a whole lotta love. One of the 26 made. Appreciate any leads to pictures, drawings etc of the 20 Custom seat frames etc. Thanks, Kjell from Norway

You are in luck!! We just so happen to have a 1948 20' Chris Craft Custom Runabout in the shop right now. We are going through the boat and have some of it taken apart to clean the bilge and get the boat running. Let me know what I can help you with and we can figure out how to get the information to you.

@@MikeGreenStudioWorks Thank you Mike. If you can take some photos of the seat constructions, both over and under I would appreciate it very much. Perhaps also how the dash is constructed, where the instruments are. I have some gauges but I think it would be best to try to locate a complete set in better condition. I think I have managed to locate a correct steering wheel and column but I am still missing the windshield frame. I have the top for the cutwater but not the cutwater itself. Do you know anyone that can make one with the one you have to measure? No one here that can do it. Not much help to get locally here so now I am trying my very best to get as a good as possible in the shortest amount of time sewing my own interiors. I can also be contacted on e-mail: kih@cminc.no Again, thank you very much, I appreciate any help you can give me.

What kind of white paint are you using and are you applying right over the Sikaflex?
@MikeGreenStudioWorks
3 жыл бұрын
We use Pettit white Ezpoxy paint white #3175 and we put it over about 4 coats of varnish which would be our finish coats. If we wet sand and buff the boat back to a shine we then do it after that.

I have one and tried to use it a couple of times and it does not come out as good for me. Also on the deck of a 21' Cobra the deck strips were very long and I could not make it work because of stopping and then starting again.
