Once (actually twice) I saw a woodpecker pecking a street light, but it was a very different pecking. It was a lot lighter but super fast, like less than 0.1s between each strike, and it did it in packets of about 2 seconds, starting each packet louder and fade out in amplitude and maybe also proportionally speed up towards the end. Kinda like when you drop a metal ball on a metal table from a low height. Initially I had no idea what made that strange sound and it was hard to track down because the place was reverberating. But when I found the woodpecker standing on top of the metal light fixture on the pole and pounding it, it was hard not to burst out in loud laughter, as I did not want to scare it away. I think I recorded the second occasion with my phone. This was years ago, not sure if I still have the footage somewhere. This will never happen again, because since then they replaced the street lights from the old compact fluorescent fixtures to LED fixtures which are diecast aluminium instead of sheet metal, so they are probably not attractive to woodpeckers.

This is a white naped woodpecker which is native to the Indian subcontinent. When woodpeckers drum like this, it's either as a territorial thing, or as a mating thing, or both. They usually will choose hollow trees or tree limbs to drum on because the sound carries better. Drumming on this window probably carries really well since it has a whole room acting as a reverb chamber. He's probably thinking, "Wow! I've found the best thing in the world to drum on. Now if only I could figure out how to carve a hole in it I'd be set for life!"

At one place I lived there was a big old oak tree out back. One time, while I was out there a young wood pecker got me laughing. The youngster was just old enough to fly and to start hunting for it's own food. It was up in that oak tree with one of it's parents, and they were both looking for yummy bugs in the tree. Every single time junior found a bug it would excitedly tell it's parent. I couldn't help it. Junior was so cute and funny, I started laughing.🤣

Years ago I started being woke up every morning by a crazy woodpecker banging on my TV antenna. After days of scaring it off only to have it come back I decided it was him or me but one of us wasn't going to be around for the next day. Next morning I loaded my rifle and got in position before the sun comes up. Sure enough, just it got light, here comes the crazy pecker and it starts banging away on the antenna. Just as I'm taking aim, it hops to open tube on the end and started grabbing wasps as they came out. I just laughed and put down the rifle. Well played Woody. Well played.

@@bannedindividual3652 Near Dinosaur Valley State Park, in the limestone deposits along the Paluxy River, "twin sets" of tracks were found in the Glen Rose Formation as early as 1908. These footprints were once thought to be evidence that humans and non-avian dinosaurs lived at the same time, but now are identified to be created by dinosaurs. However, young-Earth creationists continue to believe that humans and non-avian dinosaurs lived at the same time, a notion that is contrary to the standard view of the geological time scale. Biologist Massimo Pigliucci has noted that geologists in the 1980s "clearly demonstrated that no human being left those prints," but rather "they were in fact metatarsal dinosaur tracks, together with a few pure and simple fakes." The family of George Adams, who claimed to have found human footprints in the Glen Rose Formation, later admitted that Adams' and some others' fossil footprints were a hoax. Zana Douglas, the granddaughter of George Adams, explained that during the 1930s' Great Depression her grandfather and other residents of Glen Rose made money by making moonshine and selling "dinosaur fossils". The faux fossils brought $15 to $30 and when the supply ran low, they "just carved more, some with human footprints thrown in."

We had woodpeckers just like this, and it kept tapping against our metal pole outside. We read online it was to tell other peckers this is where it lives, so we decided to deter it by blasting loud thumping sounds through a speaker. And after a couple hours, we never saw that woodpecker again. Although our neighbors sure weren't happy..

They do this on purpose. They communicate with their banging and smart ones use metal signs and stuff because it allows them to make louder sounds to be hard further away. You can even see him listening between bangs for a response.

You probably already know this, but Morse code is made up of dots and dashes. The problem is that the pecker can only make pecks. If it made scrapes, it might work. Otherwise, there are only dots. It would have to make a message exclusively out of these letters: "E". "I".. "S"... "H"....
@FM-cn1yc

@@MrJay_White Yes, Blackberry was absolutely very security-focused and continued to be into the smartphone era (with the Blackberry Priv and such), but before the iPhone came around Blackberries were very desirable and everyone knew what a Blackberry was and that they were great.
