Thank you to all who appreciate my son's talent.and keeping his legacy alive by sharing his messages. To those who have not yet learned compassion, be patient, I hope you will learn this.We have a right to opinions, remember, David was not JUST a musician, he was my son, a brother and a friend to many. He demonstrated unconditional love, was courageous to speak the truth. Some cannot handle the truth. Find love that is,"deep and true,'' leave those only loving their own image. Be KInd, be real

It deeply saddens me that I found these guys after Mr.Gold passed away. I've never found another artist that I can connect to on such a deep level. I've never found another artist that has inspired me as much as Woods. I've never found another artist that I can listen to daily for over 3 years and still feel like I'm hearing it for the first time. I've never found another artist that has inspired me to shed my shy introverted ways and sing my heart out in front of people. I've never found another artist that I was so eager to share with every single person I met. I could literally talk about my admiration for this band and its impact on me for hours. Mr.Gold himself said, the dead are to be forgotten and the living to be adored. I however, simply can't do that. If I was to forget him and his music, I would be forgetting a part of myself.

Woods of Ypres were a doom metal band from Windsor, Ontario. The band was founded in 2002, initially consisting of three members: David Gold, Aaron Palmer and Brian McManus. Their lineup frequently changed afterward, with over 20 members in the band through its various incarnations, which saw operations later based out of Toronto from 2003-2007, and Sault Ste. Marie from 2008-2011. Their only constant member was multi-instrumentalist and frontman David Gold, with the band ending after Gold's death in December 2011, just before releasing their album Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light, which won the 2013 Juno Award for the Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year.

I was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, alone and unceremoniously ... Buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, when life was taken from me Our tree was full and green, I had to leave it The sadness was overwhelming, To be alone beneath it The sun came down hot and hard, I could never sleep To disappear was the only way I could find relief When I was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, alone and un-Sarah-moniously ... Buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, when life was taken so suddenly First I paid my respects to Glenn Gould Then I visited the grave of Alexander Muir Next to Eaton's tomb, I hung my head and cried Looking for Joseph Mulgrew, I gave up and died When I was buried... The birds sang, the flowers in bloom, spring had just begun Recently fitted for a suit, now lying in a box By summer, I was gone, my remains stolen from the ground My body never recovered and I was never found ... Until now I was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, alone and unceremoniously Buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, between the monuments and trees At the heart of the city, Amongst the statues and fountains New life could begin, where the old path I ran came to and end [David Gold Version 1.9, June 19th 1980 - May 11th, 2007 Aged 26] I was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, alone and unceremoniously ... It really bothers me how the greatest musicians don't ever get the amount of attention they deserve after something tragic like this. Even for a band that's not real big like Woods of Ypres, they should still get more attention. After finding this band about a year and a half ago, I thought it'd be awesome to see them live, then later on I found out that David Gold is dead.. They're my favorite band and after hearing his album, I can't explain how I felt and still feel from listening to it. It is ironic, it's haunting, emotional, memorable and is something that you don't really hear or feel when you listen to other bands who had a great singer that passed in a way like this. Like one of the guys said in the Metal Melting Pot group video, it's like he knew when, where and how he was gonna die... After hearing about his death, I've gotten a lot more of a deep, emotion listening to their music. The story of David's passing and the whole band itself will possibly change your views on life.. I know it has for me. It has made me want to appreciate the smaller things more and the people I have in my life, to be thankful I have the life and things I have in it even during my darkest days. Don't take anything for granted and like David Gold says in Adora Vivos "Love the living while they're still alive" \m/

@@slish438 Dearest Slish, yes, David was driving home for Christmas, then we all were going to North Carolina, all my adult children wanted to go sky diving on New Years. After New Years, David and his band were excited for an European tour, then David , as agreed, would begin a new teaching job in Dubai. As a true musician, he had started to create a solo album…and he had some exciting personal plans too…as a song lyric goes, “ all I have is photograph…memories of you,” true, but I also have 31 years of knowing a man who will never be forgotten, a man with lessons in his lyrics, for generations to come. David, we all thank you for your amazing work. And one can only wish to be buried at such a place. May your soul rest in ease now that you are in a better place. And that place is Mount Pleasant Cemetary. You may be gone. But are not forgotten.

Lance Trullinger Are you really defending someone who named an album Den Hvite Guden (which means "The White God") and then proceeded to basically say he hates anyone that isn't white and straight?

I wonder why David chose the people he did to name in the lyrics. They were all buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetary, but I still think he chose them for a specific reason aside from that.(Gould, Muir, Eaton, and Mulgrew.)

Living in Toronto myself, I have taken a few opportunities to walk in Mount Pleasant Cemetery and find many of the locations seen in this video, and written in the lyrics. Glen Gould was a world-class pianist who had his own way of playing, I'm sure that had influence on the intro Alexander Muir was a Canadian soldier, poet, and songwriter, who I am sure influenced much of David's lyrics Eaton, or the Eaton family, were a very rich and affluent family for generations, they were also founders in the City of Toronto and started the Eaton's department store chain. The family current has the largest "tomb" or mausoleum in Mount Pleasant Cemetery As for Mulgrew, I believe its a fictional name, the lead singer/frontman of "Hard Core Logo" I'm sure all those people had some significance for them to be included in the song, aside from being fairly important and influential people. Having walked through MPC a few times, I know why David wrote a song about it, not only is it beautiful, but it has a certain feel to it. Its erie, but calming.

Interesting. Just goes to show how rich and sentimental the works of WoY are. I'd love to go Ontario, or CA in general, especially after living in this barren waste titled New Mexico. Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me, as well.

Rynkar666 Thank you for all that info! I've been wondering for months why David named the people he did, and now I have some idea. The thing with a lot of Woods of Ypres' work is that it has David's personal feeling to it. No song was written for the surface, or for shallow reasons; it doesn't matter whether you enjoy the music or not, there's no denying that it's incredibly emotional and down-to-earth.
