His voice reached the heavens during this performance. And because of such, as a 14 year old boy, my very being reached the heavens with that voice while I listened to this over and over again. What heaven brought me was peace and a will to carry on. And his voice made it such. thank you Mr. Hoon. RIP.

To make it even better, Mouthful of Cavities was written for Layne Staley when Shannon saw Layne go down the bad route considering they were really, really close friends. Similarly, "Soup" was written for Kurt Cobain. To quote their guitarist: "In our interview with Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn, he said: "When he sang the lyric, 'I will pull the trigger and make you all go away,' I knew it was about Kurt Cobain. I had goose pumps for days after hearing that - and still do when I hear the song now."

Blind Melon's lyrics are fantastic. You've got this. I was able to move forward when I saw this cliche but true quote- "don't be a prisoner of your past- it was a lesson, not a life sentence. " Also, The line that had me crying in HS was of Linkin Park's A Place For My Head- "You try to take the best of me- go away". The fact that these musicians were able to save lives through music but not their own is tragic. Stay strong, proud and better than life gave the excuse to be. I'm rooting for you from afar

Man how times have changed. $130 a ticket to a big ass festival like that with awesome headliners. Today, a single day pass to ACL or similar is like $500-600. Same for a ticket to big act like Metallica. And that’s not even for good seats. You have to be wealthy or take out a goddamn bank loan just to go to a show these days. Glad I’ve seen almost everyone I’ve wanted to already because now I can’t afford to attend shows anymore lol Last big one for me was Smashing Pumpkins with Jane’s Addiction last year and then Roger Waters the following night both at The Moody in Austin. Those shows broke me but were worth it. Only bands I really still want to see are Foo Fighters (even though it won’t be the same) and Tool (I have seen APC but definitely not the same)
