@@stevenjobbins2600 lol that's true, wasn't originally planning to turn a nose, as with most of my project videos I make them up as I go along, so ended up gravitating towards using the skew to turn the nose adding a bonus tool 😁

I have NEVER got shavenings like that except with wet wood fresh off the tree or less than a week old. My tools are sharp... So what is the trick???? I've only been turning a few months, but it just doesn't happen.
@thewelshwoodman649

Hi Carol, it's a combination of having sharp tools and the angle you use them at, after turning a while you'll find that sweet spot, in the way you hold the tool and how they cut. It'll come with practice and will become a lot easier over time. I'm making a series of beginner style videos for January I'll try and cover how I use the tools more in-depth in one of the videos and show you some techniques you can use in order to improve tool control. Keep practicing especially with green wood and you'll get there, I hope this helps 😁

You’re going to think it’s hard to improve on a masterpiece, and I myself don’t believe my hubris, but here goes: perhaps one can use a thin dowel for a neck (even a stick if the local crafts store is not local). Drill a hole in both head and body, then a little glue on both ends of dowel/stick, connect head and body. Did I just make him too complicated?
