Thought this was going to be a quick turn. Had an Aspen log segment, which turns super-easy, but the grain was so open (almost wonder if it was rotting) that it took FOREVER to get it sanded down to a smooth finish. Still, I like the final piece. There’s something very pleasing about the almost-white color of Aspen wood which allows the subtle blue figuring to show through.
For those of you who are wondering, I used Ack’s Abrasive Sanding Paste and Ack’s Polish/Restoring Paste.
Off camera I finalized the piece with some OB shine juice (equal parts shellac, denatured alcohol and boiled linseed oil).
