If I found an interesting piece of wood in my forest, what would I have to do with it to prepare it for wood turning?
@RedKiteWoodturning
10 ай бұрын
Nothing really. I turn mostly green wood. You can season it if you like but you’ll find most of it cracks beyond use. You can twice turn something too which is to turn it into a think version if the finished piece then leave it for 6-12 months and then turn it again once dry. I prefer green turning.

Black locust!! I just cut one down that was dead for a long time, nd it has holes form carpenter ants just like yours. Gorgeous wood! Glows under black light! But this ain't your first rodeo, is it? I do turning but you are in a class 4 or 5 yards past me! You are up there near Richard Raffan!

@@RedKiteWoodturning nice to read it here. I thought something like that the moment I saw it. Just didn't know the word in english. The tree/shrub I mean is called "Essigbaum" in German, word by word it'd mean vinegar tree and it's in the aumac genus, but I don't kniw if sumac in English just means this specific wood or the whole genus.

Why change another mans work. Sounds like you dont like it . Why dont you do one and show the world how good you are ? Harry. Ps: I think that wood is Acacia. I have plenty you can have a seasoned piece if you pay just the postage. I am in UK.
@gregdownunderinOz
10 ай бұрын
I didn’t say I didn’t like it. Don’t get so defensive just because I offered my opinion. I’d love some acacia from uk but postage to australia is prohibitive plus it wouldn’t get through biosecurity. I only have a small amount of acacia. A lot of wattles in australia are not suitable for turning. Thanks
